  1. Could this be used for Google Talk? on Google To Buy Radio Advertising Firm · · Score: 1

Just wondering - Is this a way for them to get into the audio advert market, but for google talk? I could easily see them releasing a 'professional' version of the GT service (no ads), as well as a 'free' version which has contextual radio ads every minute for 10 seconds? Surely the technology behind adwords would work here with some speech recognition software converting the previous minute's conversation into words, and matching them against the keywords associated with the radio ads.. Naturally all the speech2text data could be added to the google brain as part of their AI effort..

  2. WAP is making a comeback due to ringtones on Software Fashion · · Score: 1

Yeah - WAP is fairly crap when you think of it as a wireless 'web'.

But, if you want to get a polyphonic ringtone or a colour picture (for starters) onto a phone, how do you do it? WAP!

Now, everyone is obsessed with ringtones and the like. To feed their obsession, they need WAP. The ringtone obsession has, funnily enough, brought WAP back from the dead.

Don't think of WAP as a wireless 'web'. Rather, take it as the major transport for getting stuff onto mobile phones. Think: Java Games etc..

Lastly, when you combine WAP with WAP Push messages, you essentially end up with something as usuable as SMS. No need to enter addresses into phones. It is literally 1 click download. No surfing etc - just retrieve the Push message. The company I work for uses this mechanism very successfully.

To say WAP is dead it calling it a little toooo early. It'll live - just hidden in the background somewhere..

  3. Has this anything to do with their smart displays? on VMware: Another Netscape? · · Score: 1

Just wondering. MS have launched their wireless smart displays. Could they be interested in the technology so that each smart display could essentially become it's own PC? (or at atleast appear to). That way, little jill can be surfing the net and reading her email in her room, whilst dad is doing his tax return in the study. All thats required is 1 PC and 2 smart displays. Wanna bet that would require 3 licences :)
