Bruce Schneier in his Cryptogram Newsletter wrote about a postal service Denial of Service attack wherein you use the Internet to automate the process of signing up for hundreds of thousands of catalogs. For anybody targeted this would be a serious real world "spam" problem.
This attack was used to inundate the "Spam King" Alan Ralsky when he made the mistake of leaking his address, which was then posted to Slashdot. I can't imagine the slashdot effect he had on his front door everyday.
They may have cited two patents in their case. The one I am familiar with is authored by a guy named Cobb with patent number 6,199,102 patft.uspto.gov
The Abstract from this patent is as follows:
The present invention provides a system and method for filtering unsolicited electronic commercial messages. A system and method according to the present invention for screening out unsolicited commercial messages comprises the steps of receiving a message from a sender, sending a challenge back to the sender, receiving a response to the challenge, and determining if the response is a proper response.
My boss knows what the other patent number is, but he is in a meeting at the moment.:(
I am going to try to respond back later with a more detailed response to all of this.
In the press release section of the site, there was an article from a mainstream magazine that quoted prices from $7,000 and up. I believe these prices included the computer. I didn't see a mention of the OS...I want mine with Linux.

About 15 years ago, when I was in Junior High, I started a Chess Club (another way not to get chicks).
I think the most important thing I did was seek out a teacher who was willing to "sponsor" the club. I took care of getting the word out about the club amongst my friends and the rest of the student body, while the teacher took care of all of the school administration stuff.
Getting a teacher to help you on the administrative side will go a long ways to getting it going.
