  1. continuous dock crashing after update on Apple Releases OS X 10.4.2 Update · · Score: 1

    Anyone else see this?

After running the 10.4.2 update on my PowerBook G4 15", the Dock keeps crashing, restarting, crashing, restarting, forever. I trashed the com.apple.dock.plist pref. No dock. Adds a new crash to the crashreporter log about every six seconds.

  3. ABS losing WAN connectivity? on Apple Offers Update to Recent AirPort Update · · Score: 2, Informative

Anyone else experience problems with the ABS losing WAN connectivity with 3.4?

I have incoming SSH open, and I noticed that once a day (or every other day maybe) with 3.4 I would lose access from outside, and then when I got home, I noticed that I could ping the ABS but not any outside IP. The ABS still had a valid WAN address from DHCP, but somehow had lost the ability to get out through the cable modem.

Anyone else have this happen? and has it abated for you with 3.4.1?

Coders who can only handle one language should be paid minimum wage; that is all they are worth. That is because it is neither the language nor the implementation that is important. It is the knowledge of how to program which will ensure your career and pay your bills.

Unfortunately, in this day and age, it is only the knowledge of how to program the current minor release of your employer's development system that will pay your bills.

Unless, like me, you have 10+ years of Java/J2EE experience.

  5. Re:Having lots of "visual brain cells" != usefulne on New Social-Network Mapping Tools Compared · · Score: 3, Interesting
Where does the author get his stat on proportion of brain cells dedicated to vision?! This is wrong. Visual cortex is in the occipital lobe, and areas V1 - V5 could be said to be "dedicated to vision." Other areas, moving into the parietal and temporal lobes are involved with visual cognition, but much of those, and the frontal lobes, are NOT involved with vision at all. Not to mention all the non-cortical areas of the brain, some of which are used for early visual connection between the retinas and the visual cortex, but most of which are not.

That being said, what he meant is perhaps that people's visual cognitive skills are much more evolved than their capacity for "abstract thinking" and intellectual pursuits.

    Except slashdotters, of course.

Check out their case studies (really just simplified examples of what they've done).
