On coronet peak using an ipaq with wireless jacket a couple of years ago.
We hooked up a huge 802.11b wlan covering most of the field for an endurance ski race called (at the time) the HP50k. The net connection was supplied from queenstown via yagi, which was a good distance away (10+ kms) .
It made the many chair lift rides a lot less boring:)
One of the main factors driving me to continue to use windows as a major productivity tool are the common keyboard shortcuts throughout each application and the os to perform tasks. Not just the basic cut n' paste, but also undo(ctrl-z), hightlight all(ctrl-a), the windows key shortcuts (win-m, win-d, win-e etc). The list goes on. If you want to do anything fast you need to use the keyboard. And in windows I assume that certain keystrokes will perform as implied. 95% of the time they will.
What linux needs is to agree on a common set of keyboard shortcuts. sort of a best practices that everyone adheres to.
yes you can "configure" everything to work the way you want, but how annoying is that? I don't want to spend my precious time setting up the computer. I just want to turn it on and have everything work.
To me, those sites seem like the need to post the ads due to large overhead costs in various aspects of their business.
Seems the main sites doing this are the news sites.
But as the internet is the way it is, news from only one source isn't very likely.
I think people will just find another site that isn't so blatent in it's advertising.
Take for example the ign and gamespy websites. I know of a few people (including myself) who refuse to visit these sites due to their advertising. Instead there is a whole plefora of sites out there that serve up the same, if not better news.
It's just like TV. If an ad is on, change the channel.
What about the other people in the world

Who Needs Radio?

Radio will be around for a while. It's a great communication medium. Especially for 3rd world countries.
Also what about the people that don't sit at their desk? Labourers and the like get through the day with the radio. Their management staff would seriously object to having a tv or other expensive and distracting piece of equiptment nearby.
Besides, with all the crap that's on tv, radio seems to be the last haven of decency left in the world
