I'm not sure how, many people are marketing their DSL. I know that we market ours as 30 - 45 Business Days because as a CLEC/ISP we have to rely on OUR provider(basically) and sometimes THEIR delays, like the classic, Going out to install sDSL only to realize that everything works fine on the customer end but the Telco who provided the line and so forth hasn't programmed the DSLAM. There are many things involved with the DSL ordering process and unfortantly many ISP's and/or CLEC's do not have all the facilities and have to either go through another company or partner up with another company. As opposed to the MegaHuge Monopoly known as "@home"(of course AT&T) which owns pracitcally everything. It's kinda like when you have the money and power to push out all potential opposition go for it?? Its actually a real shame to see many people choosing Cable over DSL. One thing to always rember DSL may have its slow times but YOU PERSONALLY have your own limits, where as with your Cable, everyone in the neighborhood is out there sucking down the node limit.
Something along the lines of putting together a little "Sim Lan" or "Sim Server" and teaching the kids the basics of system security while also giving them a chance to find potential exploits, not necissarly teaching them to crack systems, but to know how to better protect servers as well as their own machines.
I don't care what ANYONE says if you live in any large city were theres a good Rock N Roll/indie/garage scene those kids LOVE Pinball. I have a friend who writes a 'zine and has a section devoted to PINBALL!(if you interested E-mail me and I can mail a copy for ya) But basically I think as long as we have Rock N Roll Pinball will never die! or maybe i'm just way to hardcore Pinball junkie and bad grammar user.
First of all I think many of the bands that are complaining about things such as Napster are the bands that are in it for the money and not necisarly making music. I know MANY people who use napster as simply a way to get to know and listen to bands and usally buy there albums at some later point in time. The MP3 format and Napster, as we all know, is a great way for indie muscians to get heard, think about it if the Radio played good music all the time wouldnt that just be a shock?? But then again who am I to say whats good and whats not? I guess thats the RIAA's place right?
I know many people who have the same kinda setup and it just doesn't seem to yield any thing to well. If your in an Area were Dsl or Cable Modems are unavalible and feel the need to shell out the cash then it is a good solution for higher download speeds but keep in mind, you still need that ol' 56K modem to upload.
Most indie ISP's who are owned and runn locally usally keep their equipment pretty up to date. I know we constantly upgrade our V.90 code to try and eliminate has many Interoperability issues as possible. We currently are testing a new Cisco Access server as well. Unlike the Big mega corporations where they just rent Dial ups from Mega Pop or UUNET who usally allow connections with anything including those old "baud" modems. If your connecting through AOL I could see how that modem might not be to helpful to you. =o)
Besides the one javascript error I get when I bookmark sites this thing seems really cool. And handy for us who are always in front of a different computer!
