"No, the industrial capitalists just found new ways to put us (and now our wives too, who are no longer required for housework thanks to all these appliances) to work for their own insatiable greed."

You sir, have that utterly backwards. People's desire for stuff drives them to work. One worker families abound in areas (usually not cities) because the people there don't need $250K dollar houses and new cars every year. The "Big, Bad Capitalists" are just selling the stuff people want. An example is your computer. You really don't need it for a happy and productive life, but you have it. Many people have it primarily to play games. Certainly not needed.

Don't want to be a "slave"? Don't have so much stuff.

Seriously, Google Maps would be a bitch to use that way. I use a site frequently that displays a raft of photos to select from. These are categorized by some feature. Again, it would be a bitch to pop up forty-eight different pics in order to select the one I want.

Yeah, but unfortunately for your argument, FOSS engineering software catch-up is *exactly* the linch-pin that this particular foray depends from. They're not looking to develop CAD software, they're looking to develop rockets. FOSS is only good for those who want to develop something while it's underway. It's only good for everyone else after it works and has sufficient functionality. Life - it's a bitch.
