  1. Re:Windows update on Windows XP SP2 Delayed Until Late 2004 · · Score: 1

This happened to me a couple of days ago. I was working on a Win98SE box for a friend, and tried to do some updates. I had to close and reopen IE a couple of times before things straightened themselves out. E.

  2. Tried Gentoo once... on Measuring The Benefits Of The Gentoo Approach · · Score: 1

I first jumped onto the linux bandwagon with Redhat 6.0, and have tried several different distros since (Mandrake, Suse, etc.) Tried Gentoo once. After spending over a day trying to install and compile (and troubleshoot), the damn thing wouldn't work. No boot for me. Said "fuk it," and went back to Redhat. Having spent so many years around non-optimized operating systems (i.e. Microsoft Windows), I found that the Gentoo headache wasn't worth it. To each their own, though. E.

If you like "Time Bandits," then you should check out some of director Terry Gilliam's other works. These include "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen," Brazil, 12 Monkeys, and a lot of Monty Python stuff. Link to Terry Gilliam at IMDb: http://us.imdb.com/Name?Gilliam,%20Terry

  4. Piss, meet wind... on GoboLinux Rethinks The Linux Filesystems · · Score: 1

It is an act of futility to so dramatically change the linux file system. Uptake on this will be very small, and (alas) eventually this distro will just fade away. Worse, yet, is that new linux users that try this as their first distro will find that they will get almost no help from more experienced linux users. Frustration and ridicule will set in, and a linux newbie will realize that they have wasted their time and will (1) have to start all over again, or (2) move to another OS (MS, Apple, etc.). E.

  6. Re:Please say it ain't so!! on Spider-Man Has Back Problems · · Score: 2, Funny

The movie may have conveyed (to you) the tone of the comic, but it was far from faithful.

The biggest variance from established continuity is the organic web shooters. Peter Parker was a science whiz and created mechanical web shooters in the comic. I read that Sam Raimi (the director) didn't think that the movie viewers would buy the fact that Parker could be smart enough to make mechanical web shooters. Nevermind the fact that the movie viewers were expected to buy the fact that an irradiated spider could bite you and give you spider powers. Oh, and shouldn't the bite have resulted in Parker shooting webs from his ass? Spiders don't even have arms.
