I'm sorry. Planned Parenthood's Guttmacher Institute reports that less than 1% of all abortions are due to rape and/or incest.
The below wikipedia article sheds some light on this topic. You'll find that most of the reasons are optional and have more to do with preservation of lifestyle or social standing. Overall 8.2% could be construed as medically needed.
It's about market and rewards. I think, as a society, it's wrong to market the destruction of fundamental innocents as socially acceptable. Less than 2% of all abortions are due to rape/incest. In poor neighborhoods abortion is a method of birth control. (I work with these people, on a volunteer basis, and as a slum lord.I own some low income rentals.)
The wholesale of human fetuses and embryos lowers the overall value of a human life. I cannot support such a course.
Incidentally, you would learn how to walk without ever seeing another human. That motor action is imprinted before you are born. So, if you have a funny gait, thank your mom.
Actually, as the earners of wealth and power, we have the right to attempt to hold on to it. That is the nature of earnings. If I make money it is well within my rights to rat-hole it, invest it, or squander it on liquor and gambling.
Worker exploitation has multiple effects, one of which is the errosion of the middle-class. I own a single and multi-family structure remodel and repair business. My primary employee's are my father and two uncles. I handle marketting and business generation as well as legal and financial concerns. I would like to grow the work-force, but I am unable to do so competitively without employing illegals. Thus I don't grow my work force, but instead I find a niche and rely on my father's experience in problem solving. This will work for a time... but it's a no win proposition.
There are many fields (all low to moderate skill) that this is happening to. Is it the end of the world? No, but it could lead down a road to an economy more like a third world nation, where a vast virtually insurmountable divide separates the haves from the have-nots.
So, do we as a nation agree to subsidize the citizenry and political structure of another nation to decrease inflationary pressure? Or do we accept the current course and just hope that we can keep from voting the slave class enough benefits that we cripple ourselves economically...
I hate to rain on your Bush-bashing parade but every president since FDR has exercised the power to listen in on conversations that involve national security. That includes buildings full of ladies opening letters and reviewing them for content as was done WWII.
This was found to be constitutional at the time. Please do yourself a favor and do some research.
More importantly, as others have no doubt pointed out, you can configure many firewalls and routers in "transparent" mode so that certain physical media are connected with no NAT but IP is still being filtered. There are some ARP shenanigans that must go on, but it is quite trivial.
There are even several linux fw distros and SOHO fws that do this out of the box.
No. Intellectual complacency keeps you from investigating Linux.
Pro-Linux behavior keeps you from liking "person A".
I don't like MS products, but I still keep them running in VM's because sometimes I need to know how/why they work the way they do. Anyone who works in an IT field and hasn't installed a *nix variant is missing out on a vast universe of possibilities.

Because the treatment is conjecture and based on the self-reported status of the individual.
What if he doesn't experience those desires right now because of a lull in his "active" state as is common with psychopaths. The brain trauma may have relieved stress that exacerbated his particular imbalance or the damage and the resulting recovery has not yet allowed his brain to resume the functioning status that it once had.
Six months down the line he's doing something very nasty to someone you love... where will you be?/*Neuroscience and psychological biology are messy topics. Best leave them to figuring out drugs and treatments, and let the rest of society catch up when the kinks are ironed out.*/ No pun intended.
What do we gain by not believing in free will? Social anarchy, moral relativism, and state imposed biological quarantines.
What do we gain by believing in free will? Consequences to actions provided that diagnoses cannot unequivocally prove that something was amok in their wiring. Less gov't oversight, and less inclination toward eugenics.
Politicians are politicians. Tis part of what makes me tire of our system. Remember the Dem that had the Nat'l Guard load up his private stuff during Katrina, asking them to defer food, troop, and rescue transport?
Lord Acton was right, will be right... forever.
That's why I would traditionally vote for Republicans, at least they are/were for smaller federal gov't more state/local control. However, this last group has hosed that whole concept up.
Professional politicians are power hungry sociopaths. How do we solve that problem?
Dude, I hate to "Me too!" you, but I use "not friendly" distros (Elive{Debian} and Gentoo) and I just so happen to have gotten a freebie USB stick from a vendor. Guess what? The Winders choked on it whilst I merrily move some source files over for covert installation on the vendor platform.
Oh, and my wife's camera? The same...
Linux has all the tools to win this war because the developers write to open and usable standards. IF only the hardware vendors would realize that on a larger scale.
MS will always try to make the right tactical decisions for market share, even if it's technically or strategically wrong. For now, they win because they have been "forcibly offering unwanted advances progressing into unconsenting relations"1 people for years.
My wife has been happily Winders free for 7yrs now. My brothers, 2yrs. I very carefully explained that some things they won't be able to do the same way (similar to the diff between Mac & Winders) but they'll never have to worry about inexplicable crashing, adware, viruses, or wack-ass weirdness.
If they have questions about an app, they find out about it and then ask me.
Final outcome: They accept the downsides for the glorious feeling they get when they can say "Crash? Adware? what are these you speak of?"
Or, you just like having kids around to instruct and guide some children toward becoming socially responsible people and you have the wherewithal to do so.
My parents had 4 boys, my dad has since adopted two more children (1b/1g).
He also runs volunteer summer camps, coaches soccer teams, and teaches youth groups.
Why? Because he believes people are responsible for molding the future generations.
Don't demean people's decisions because they want or have something you don't. Perspective people.
Anecdotally, most of the sex workers that I have known were simply money or fame hungry. I worked as security for strippers, and escorts in LA and Vegas for a few years. Some of the girls used drugs recreationally, most drank, but very few had addiction issues. Those that did burned out of the strip-club/call-girl scene pretty quickly and ended up on the streetwalker/pimp list.
As sex workers I have met: Several MBA holding women who used the income as a capital generation mechanism for real estate investment, two med-school attendees who were paying for school, and sundry psych or lib arts majors that were paying for school or travel via stripping. I married a stripper/Playmate who is a published short story author.
More than most of them are women dealing with a world in which money and fame are worth more than anything else. Practically speaking, they've got a better handle on the world than we in our geeky little towers do.
One thing about the girls that do porn and/or whore themselves out. They are more likely to have that vacant, soulless incapacity for intimacy... Which reminds of the expression Paris Hilton often wears. That 'used up' look is why I pity them. It also creates a conflict for me regarding legalization. Porn 'actresses' are legit, but they still often seem as if their humanity has been eaten away...
Working in SAN, and NAS made me very twitchy about upgrading Winders. Service Packs included. You never know when a super-stealth change in the way scsi.sys and the registry confer about LUN references will be in the new SP.
With other OS's, if I have a question I can look at the/proc system, the dev tree, and the source comments and figure out any changes. With Winders I hunt around in the registry and find out what has changed... and then we have to figure out how 'Winders' wants us to change what we're doing to get the disks to line up the way we want to.
Well, for one the cells of the nervous system need to be recharged. This takes place at an accelerated rate during sleep. The muscle cells of the body also need to restore their glycogen and other nutrients as well as make repairs to contractile proteins that will have been damaged. This is accelerated by a dramatic rise in Growth Hormone during sleep. GH is also responsible for repair and regrowth of other tissues.
The cost of not sleeping may be subtle, but very costly in the long term. Very similar to people who habitually use painkillers. Painkillers will allow you to turn an acute condition into a chronic by allowing you to function without the inhibitory condition of pain.
Precisely why I have not taken pain meds for my wisdom tooth removal, tonsillectomy, or umbilical hernia repair. The pain reminds you of what you ought not be doing.
Not only that, but the production in the lower 48 was even more highly curtailed by environmentalist and NIMBY activity. This is easily illustrated by several projects that one of the large oil companies that I work for currently are engaging many very large drilling projects here in CONUS. Previous to the GWB administration they were unable to get clearance to drill.
CO, NM, PN, GA, and LA are on the list of growing production states...
I have to agree with you Dave, with one exception. The vast majority of people don't even play games on their computer, other than the little online games and whatnot. People are very appliance oriented which has been a good space for me to outfit my family and good friends of the family with linux boxen.
However, having to remotely fix issues with Flash, Javascript, JRE's, and printing are a bugger. That's where I think the effort of Linux hackadors should be. Work on the base. Make it just work... the rest will come.
I have to agree with you here regnumirae. I have worked for movie studios that had serious change control issues but that was mostly due to incompetence and lack of motivation until the last moment.
However, I am currently consulting for two large oil companies. One has change control falling out of their ass. They are outsourced to IBM and see their service level decreasing daily. However, with the other they are insourced and they hire highly technical people to handle issues. Change control is at the professional behest of the admin of that vertical. The second case has fewer outages and far less time (the primary uses 1hr daily, plus 2hrs on Wed) spent approving changes.
Professionals can make professional decisions. Just make sure that you hire professionals, not pretenders.
And a thought interestingly devoid of Testosterone.
I think you'll find that people will work hard for you for years on end, whether or not you say please or thank you. If you're a hard-assed sumbitch. I have assembled many a hard-core team of technologists for many a company because I am a hard-ass. I accept no excuses, I give no apologies. Why do people, men in particular, work harder for me than my competitors? Because I am harder on myself than I am on them. The people that work for me see my unrelenting dedication and they feel motivated and inspired... Add in some leadership opportunities and your collection of gaggle-fucks turns into a smoothly operating machine of efficiency and efficacy.

Interesting that you posit the "No Child Left Behind" bill as GWB's responsibility. Need I remind you that it was primarily authored by Dems... including Kennedy. Accountability will always be problematic for educators, but they should audited as closely as possible to prevent the waste of tax money.

How do the visitors to PlannedParenthood pay for their services? No idea. It is a relatively inexpensive procedure as I remember it.
Not really. Your proposition didn't sound any better than the original.
What we need are abortions that cost as much as executions and executions that cost as much as abortions.
That would at least set the cost of each closer to the relative damage to society caused by each.
As an atheist who believes abortion is wrong:

I pity anyone who _needs_ their job, rather than wanting it.
Good for Mr. Allison. He can reap the benefits of being good at what he does and contributing to a highly recognized body of work.
