  1. A blast from 1996 on Freshman MIT Students Automate Dorm Room · · Score: 1

We had a simular system for our Quake Team Fortress Gamer system at a former company I was employed at in the 1990s. One of our engineers Ben Kamen took the results of our noon Quake frag fests and would broadcast the top 15 frag list on a LED marque sign. We also had the Web-Page score history online. He designed an Auto-Quake system that started at 12:00 - 1:00pm and for after hours play 5:00pm. It was awesome! Those signs have been around for a while. He was the first to use the LED Marque sign in our office Quake automation system.

It even goes deeper than that. The broadcast companies are even objecting to an exception for news programs. When was the last time someone copied and distributed a local news DVD or 60 minutes.

In Star Trek, on thing they did not do was waste time explaining some of the basic technology of the series. For instance, No one explained warp technology you just knew it worked. No one explained how they communicated at warp speed. No one explained teleporting. Oh sure you can read the fan technology guides if you want too but you don't have to enjoy the show.
