Video Lan Client(VLC) http://www.videolan.org/ has a video filter called Wall (Found under preferences, modules, video filter 1). You can specify the number of rows and columns, and it will break a stream up into blocks.
I use two monitors using the TwinView option for X. I can place each 'video block' anywhere on the desktop. Just one of the MANY way cool features of VLC. Enjoy!
