Intel has other problems with china trying to build its own OS for its own CPU chip. Its the CPU chip if they really have one.

This is all part of an even bigger picture. Corperate america is hitting a wall and hitting it hard. I saw the same thing at Motorola. The Asain market has been the next big thing for close to 10 years now and it has never appeared.

The Chinese government has required companies to place facilities in china in order to get a foot hold. This has resulted in the transfer of all sorts of knowledge to china. Including silicon technology. It looks more an more like american companies are going to bleed america dry of jobs it get a new foot hold that the china has just said will not appear at all.

You can also thank our government for this. They have let it happen. But it is after all the government bought by the corperations, of the corperations and for the corperations.

What about Columbine. These kids were also 17 (or so). There parents did not pry into their private lives. No more needs to be said.

As a parent I want my daughter to turn out to be what I consider to be a "good person". That means that I need to take an active interest in every thing she does, incorrage the good and stop the bad. If I have a reason to believe there is a problem I will find out what it is.

Ok I agree with most of what you say. You have provided a great deal more information than before.

I will modify my statement and not call it theft but a copyright violation. And I agree that most of the music business is and will continue to be vague about all aspects of the copyright issue. That is the nature of the beast until some court clears the issue up. It does make it very difficult to decide in many situations. It is also the role of the teacher, parents and other adults (you seem to be very active in this) to help the kids with these decisions.

In many cases the music would not have been purchased because the downloader could not have afforded it anyway. There are very many doing it that can afford it. The net is a loss of income to the rightfull owners/copyright holders and it is WRONG. This is the key point. Throw away all the various legal jargon and this is what we are left with.

However, as I stated (I think in another post) I know several parents that are battling with their kids over all sorts of issues about the internet. One of them is just this issue. In at least one case a teacher, who fancies himself a bit of a rebel, has been a contributor. The parents are caught becuase the guy is pretty good otherwise and the kids like him.

I take excpetion to one other of your statements. It is always the responsibility of ther user to understand his rights. Ignorance is not bliss. In this case the rights to the "happy bithday" song have been an issue in the news for a number of years now and I have seen articles on it several times. A few years ago a caucasion I work with was complaining about the Indians and how bad they are. I asked him if the percent of caucasion programmers who could pull their head out was higher than indian. He had to admit it was not. So I guess the numbers are on the side of other countries except for one thing. For american companies to out source off shore they must also pay for managerial staff here to control it. There are delays due to diffent time zones (I have had conference calls at midnight) and a real problem with cultural mis understandings.

I do not have a problem with a company in another country offering a product that has higher quality and more features taking its rightful place in business. I do have a problem with slave labor camps and bad working conditions in order to take jobs away from americans.

It is the current "thing to do" for businesses to off shore support and development. In the long run these companies will go directly to the customers and leave the people who enabled them behind. They will follow the american model of management which is screw everybody.

Cringly's analogies here are sometimes wierd but you get the picture I am concerned with. I have worked for small dedicated projects a few times and lots of good things were created. For the most part they tended to be better products for the companies I worked for and it tended to piss off other larger projects. Think about that.

But even more importantly for you young guys read between the lines a little. More overhead is mentioned in the article. Where does this comes from. Well basically it is somewhat older engineers like me that have been around a while. We become project coordinators and architects with the work being done mostly off shore. Probably also tested somewhere else off shore. What that means is there will be a much reduced or eleminated demand for the generation of CS majors just about to enter the real job market. How does that look to you. The problem is in a few years there will be a backlash and the "in" managers will find a big new idea to bring the work back here where it can be done more efficiently. What are your software skills going to be like after working as a cashier for a few years.

This article is not really about Mac vs. Linux vs. Windows. It is about most inept management that does not understand the problems making stupid decissions for a company. We go into the mess of an economy becuase of them. They are making it worse and buying off polititions to let them do even more harm.
