  1. Re:No core remnant in Type 1a on Mystery of an Ancient Super Nova Solved · · Score: 1

Correct. Iron cores are associated with Type Ib/Ic & Type II core-collapse supernovae. Type Ia supernovae typically originate with carbon-oxygen white dwarfs that have only their primordial iron abundance.

  2. Re:Sick of the cabals on Wikipedia Losing Contributors, Says Wales · · Score: 1

It would be so bad if opinionated knobs keep showing up with a point-of-view agenda to push, which requires a so-called "cabals" of editors to form and keep a watch for repeated bias. As an example: creationist editors seeking to espouse their non-scientific, minority views on everybody regarding the age of the Earth and evolution. The minute the edit is removed because of non-compliance with Wikipedia policy on such matters, up come the arguments about "edit warring", "ownership", and so forth. It's a load of bull crap. You might think a little differently if the shoe were on the other foot.

Oh come on, we can make the conspiracy bigger than that. China is the world's largest greenhouse gas emitter and the Republican Party wants to kill NASA's Earth monitoring program. Their motto: "What we don't know, can't hurt them."

  5. Re:A shame or not a shame? on Boeing Connexion, No More Wi-Fi at 30,000 ft? · · Score: 2, Insightful

You're talking about a company that cuts entire aircraft production lines because they are no longer making money. Production lines that once made billions and billions of dollars. Why keep throwing good money away? Smart companies decide whether a business line can become profitable with good margins. Overly patient companies can end up going bankrupt. Even if Boeing spent more money on this and turned it around, odds may good that by that time that happened they'd have a lot of competition and tighter margins. So from their perspective this decision is probably sensible.

#def flame_retardant 1 Assuming that you are serious and rational, then I take it that you are asserting that the entirety of Wikipedia is dedicated to opposition to the US Government? You've interviewed each and every editor, and assertained their political beliefs and motivations? I always find such blanket polemic assertions about wikipedia quite amusing. If anything you can consider yourself quite fortunate to get any grouping of wikipedians to achieve a concordance on a subject matter. #undef flame_retardant

  7. DARPA RASCAL on NASA's New Space Wheels · · Score: 1

While a shuttle replacement is obviously needed (including a launch to orbit vehicle and a separate orbital meneuver vehicle) I find the DARPA RASCAL initiative much more intriguing in terms of innovative, potentially viable approaches. See: http://www.darpa.mil/tto/programs/rascal.html and the September 22 issue of AW&ST.

  8. Game company support? on WineX 3.0 Examined · · Score: 3, Insightful

Has there been any interest in having the gaming companies support Wine during their test cycle, as well as printing Wine requirements on their shipped game packages? I'd be more tempted to purchase a game for use on Linux if I knew it was supported on Wine by the vendor. Having the information printed in the requirements box could be a big help in selling Linux as a gaming environment. Thanks.
