My worst computer accident took only seconds to cause and hours to fix. I upgraded my BIOS with a similarly numbered BIOS version, but the incorrect version.
After spending a few hours worrying about what I was going to do (buy a new motherboard, etc.) I ran across a forum posting that suggested I might be able to boot up with a good BIOS, hot swap the bad BIOS chip with the good one, and burn the correct BIOS onto the bad chip. It seemed like it had a chance to work, and sure enough it did.
Amazon also marks certain items so that you cannot see the price unless you add it to the shopping basket then view your shopping basket. This makes it more difficult to automate mining for prices for some of the products.
If companies see this type of price mining as an issue, I would not be surprised to see companies start putting their prices in bitmaps -- similar to some sites that ask you to retype a value displayed in a bitmap in order for the submit to work.
