Alpha Centauri is a great game its got all the good things about Civ2 plus things like the workshop or the goverment setting but its got one big problem the tecnologies you discover dont exist. Yo cant discover writing or things like that. For me its a great satisfaction to build the great wall but to build most of the wonders in Alpha Centauri doesnt really excite me (except for the Space Elevator) so still I think still Civ2 is better and then Alpha Centauri
Unfortunatly it is true Civ2 is much better then Civ3. Its much more fasterand it has better gameplay.
Civ3 though it had lots of cool things never really got to that level where you didn't notice the passing of time and just had to play again and again and at least once every six months.
So if you want the best turn-based strategy game go with Civ2.
And for other games GTA 3, or if you prefare spying Metal Gear 2.
RPG for the oldies Kingdom Hearts.
