    This is nothing new for the UK. The only thing new is that it is done electronically rather than by old fashioned methods (ie, bribes, cajoling, blackmail). Just about every fucked up situation in the world today can be traced back to root causes that are result of UK colonial policies and the use of "intelligence" agencies from the late 1800's thru the late 1960s (when they finally became a has been).

    Don't just look at "violent" crime rates. Look at property rates too. NYC is one of the lowest out there regardless of size. What source are you using? in 2012 per the UCR database, of agencies in populations > 100K NYC ranked # 97 in violent crime rate and #272 in property crime rates (both out of 287 reporting) For murders it is #131, Even robbery (as opposed to burglary) it is only ranked #74.

    You need to look at crime stats on a per 100K basis. NYC is lower than not just "big" cities but also small ones of the 100K variety.

    less crime? OK. clearner air? compared to....? NYC is a big place - its not just Manhattan or the upper East (or West) side. In fact, you might make the argument in reverse when it comes to NYC, that lower "skilled" workers are clustering there and getting the benefits described.

    So basically it sounds like anything using the wpa_supplicant code may do this? I can understand why it may be necessary for a hidden network, don't understand why the connecting party would ever transmit anything about past connections for public networks. Isn't SSID included in the beacon every 100ms or so?

    ITER is a giant money pit and has been from the start. I do hope that the congress critters redirect at least some of the funds towards US based non-tokamak alternatives which have struggled to get funding in light of the giant sucking sound that is ITER.

    And to those going OMG! Fossil fuels!

    Assume that the remaining members of ITER are successful before they are bled dry. Do you honestly think that any commercial venture will exclude customers in non-ITER countries? That would be pretty stupid. Better that the US pay a premium on each reactor built (assuming that someday ever happens) than to continue to pour money down a hole today.

    Rather than accept that the latest fad has not helped and has other negative consequences, just like educatoin the powers that be instead wish to modify "tweak" "enahnce" the existing failure instead of reverting back to the original state and starting over.

    Go back to the original walk/do not walk and add "run". No timers so nobody knows quite how long it lasts. ...

    You misread my post. I have had my posts removed from my newsfeed. Not talking about friends, etc. If I view my newsfeed sorted by "most recent", fb has removed content. If I post about puppies, shows up fine. So again, not only is fb denying my content to others, its mechanisms are denying it to me as well unless I view directly on my home page.

    you have to select the pay as you go option. activating the sim will give you a new phone number which you may then toss when you are done with your time in the US. I would suggest forwarding your old phone to the temporary number or telling those from where ever it is you are coming from that do need to still contact you the temporary number.
