I'll take your post to mean that you can't show me how Joe Slaver is not being hypocritical when his actions (beating his slaves) are not consistent with his belief that all humans deserve the utmost respect.
"My definition of hypocrisy makes reference to two things: beliefs and actions. The definition is: when actions and beliefs are not consistent."
So please tell me how Joe Slaver is not being hypocritical. His actions (beating his slave) are not consistent with his belief (all humans deserve the utmost respect).
Should I take this to mean you now realize that just because an individual doesn't view their actions as hypocritical, it doesn't mean that those actions *aren't* hypocritical?
On the contrary it is definately on topic... In order to discuss whether GPL enforcers are hypocritical one must compare how their actions of enforcing the GPL compare to their actions/beliefs in other areas, such as illegally distributing music.
You argue that it is not hypocritical to illegally distribute music but support enforcing the GPL. You say this is because the law regarding copyright of music is wrong. Yet you give no proof to back up this statement. Without such proof, your entire argument is baseless and worthless.
"Um, I was under the impression that if you installed a library from source, then tried to install another package that depends on that library, RPM wouldn't work and you'd have to do everything from source."
'rpm --nodeps packagename.rpm ' works just fine when you have a library rpm doesn't know about.
"Word is the defacto industry standard document interchange format."
Please substantiate that with facts...
Since *all* computers and computer users can read text files, wouldn't it be more accurate to say that text is the defacto industry interchange format?
If you have an AGP card, support is pretty good. PCI cards are not supported as well (PI will be writing PCI Gart support for the linux kernel to improve performance for PCI cards). However, Rage128 cards are the least supported of the cards, having the newest drivers.
Hmmm... I bought XiG's accelerated server for ATI Rage128 cards. Constant lockups anytime I tried to run a GL app. Precision Insight's drivers, however, never gave me that problem.
"All you need is the drivers. Besides, the USB patch breaks a large amount of legacy stuff, and still doesn't come with the full compliment that Windows 95 does."
"You're only using the driver, which you are legally entitled to as owner of the hardware."
But you didn't use the driver they provided... Why? Because it breaks a large amount of legacy stuff. Obviously, then, it's not just the same driver, and therefore you are not legally entitled to it.
May I suggest you contact nVidia about this? They have been very uncooperative towards Be when it comes to releasing the necessary info to write drivers.
The author is under no obligation to port it to any other architechture/OS just because someone wants him to. If you want divx support for another playform, how about programming it yourself?
"I am one poster, and just like everyone else am governed by the same rules under this system."
If, as BJH says, individuals have been bitchslapped for moderating you appropriately, then the same rules do not apply to you as they do for everyone else.
Just because something is meant to be funny doesn't mean it is... As such, we may not know that it was meant to be funny and only think it was meant to annoy people reading Slashdot. Therefore, it is a troll.
"Yes, blacks are humans, but the slaver DOES NOT AGREE WITH THIS."
And again, it *does*not*matter*. The rest of the world knows that blacks are humans.

Adam
But they are not consistene with his beliefs that all humans (which blacks are) deserve the utmost repspect.
You aren't getting this, are you?
Adam
"His actions (beating the slave) are consistent with his belief (blacks are subhuman)."
Irrelevant... His actions are *still* inconsistent with his belief that all humans are deserve the utmost respect.
I, and presumably you, know that blacks are not subhuman. There is no scientific basis for that belief. Therefore he is being hypocritical.
Adam

Adam
My definition is ridiculous? Your definition seems to indicate that just because someone views something one way, it means that it really is that way.
Adam
And you, my friend, are an arrogant asshole, unable to either admit when you are wrong or unable to realize you are wrong.
Adam
Should I take this to mean you now realize that just because an individual doesn't view their actions as hypocritical, it doesn't mean that those actions *aren't* hypocritical?
Adam
"Can you provide an alternate reference?"
I don't need to...
"1.The practice of professing beliefs, feelings, or virtues that one does not hold or possess; falseness."
Joe may profess that humans deserve the upmost respect. Yet, by beating slaves he is demonstrating that this is not true.
Adam
"Is Joe hypocritcal when he beats his slaves?"
Yes... Despite what he believes, blacks are not subhuman. Maybe he doesn't view himself as hypocritical, but that doesn't mean he's not.

"No, the law should be not-respected because it is WRONG. Plus, as an added bonus, it is unenforceable."
You have yet to give an understandable argument as to why the law is wrong is this particular case...
Adam
"But the output itself is not scarce and so we needn't charge/pay for it."
Please explain that leap in logic...

"Instead give them a pragmatic reason why they shouldn't send you word files."
Not having Office or Word available under Linux is a pretty pragmatic reason.

So you're going to believe one faceless, and nameless, anonymous poster who claims to have some inside knowledge over a Be developer?

Please explain how Sig's post is even remotely on-topic... It has nothing to do with KDE or debian or licensing.
