  1. Blame IBM on Robert Love Resigns from Novell · · Score: 1

Novell is already a subsidiary of IBM in everything but name -- see my article on www.abend.org. Long-term, Novell is cruising for a buyout, and the only activities that are happening at Novell are either to please IBM, or to get ready for the buyout. In addition, has anyone considered how bad a FOSS person feels working for IBM execs? Well, 5 of Novell's top 8 execs, plus a boatload of others, are ex-IBM. IBM has never been know for open standards, and in fact, their logo is next to the definition of the word "proprietary" in the dictionary.

I'll tell you what... I'll give you the IP addy of any one of my netware servers and let you try. No firewalls anywhere.... c'mon... I dare you... Tell you what, I'll even give you credit if you can show me a Google'd report of any such things happening!

  3. Re:Novell will not be taken over: too much cash on Novell/SUSE Prime for Aquisition? · · Score: 1

That's usually not true. In fact, a great many businesses have been bought out, with cash reserves "liberated" to pay off the debts incurred in the buyout. Some dot-coms were taken over and liquidated after their assets (notably cash from an IPO) became more than the market cap.

  4. Re:Finally on Novell Claims Ownership of UNIX System V · · Score: 1

Uh, Novell has like half a Billion dollars (US) in the bank... they're not going anywhere. And they've got about as many desktops as they've ever had, but many of their products now run on windows servers. The share of Netware O/S has steadily declined, but then again, most of the newer installs have been small (tiny) networks. Novell only recently (last month) woke up to that fact, and now offer 5-user Small Business Suite for free.
