I'll tell you why it's wrong. IT'S NOT THEIR JOB! We pay them to be our checks and balances for the Congress and Prez. Anything else they do with our money (and their time) is beyond scope and wasted. If we need someone to indoctrinate our children, it should be done correctly, through the public schools system like it always has. (yes, that's sarcasm ;)

Phone number???? What kind of luddites are in their marketing/sales departments?

COME ON PEOPLE! (to HandSpring) If I enter a store, they don't tell me to go home and call their 800 number, they do what they can to take my money right there. Web business should be no different. Can you tell I want one really bad? I want to see it with my eyes before I pick out the color though, the web graphics just don't do it for me.

When I was in High School, the staff was allowed to search lockers, because the school owned them. HOWEVER, they were not allowed to search backpacks in lockers, because they belong to the student. Yes the company owns the bandwidth, the server, software, but do they actually own a piece of mail? I think if it is sent to the company and not an individual, then yes, otherwise, no. Of course, the employees of the company probably have already signed away their right to privacy in the employee handbook (since it is a large corp). How come we never hear about this stuff with voice mail? And wouldn't it be in the company's best interests to scan for corporate espionage instead of porn? Don't they know they can get their own porn for free elsewhere? ;)

An when has that stopped any US government/entity? We've been in debt... how long? Has anyone been interested in sending people in the Space Shuttle? I think most people are bored with it. The interest can be gained through the usual propaganda by telling everyone how the information gained will help science and could be a pre-emtive measure in case one is headed for us. If they can't get the money with tax they'll sell our kids drugs!

You obviously have not been paying attention to the drug war. Every day, in the US, "everyday people" with respectable jobs, responsibilities, etc have their children taken away, homes stolen, and lives ruined. All in the name of the drug war. The US government makes more money from property forfeiture than the criminals do (in some cases 2 to 3 times as much money annually). I've heard, read, and talked with individuals that have gone through the experience of having their privacy ignored, all property seized, and basically all other rights ignored. Maybe if you didn't have your head in the sand you'd see that this article about our privacy is very old news.
