  1. Dear Mr Eagle... on Gator Forces Site To Remove 'Spyware' Label · · Score: 1

    Dear Mr Eagle (Gator dudette),

I would like to inform you to never walk on the streets near my house. If I were ever able to identify you or any of your neanderthal cronies, I would mount the gutter in my car just to run you over.

After running you over, if you aren't already unconcious, I will proceed to knock you out and urinate down your throat. Hopefully, you will drown.

After this, I will tie you by your throat to my towbar and proceed to drag you at the top speed of my car untill your newly rotting carcass is strewn accross the road in an unidentifiable fasion.

This also goes for anyone else who writes SPYWARE like gator, bonzi buddy, xupiter, etc.

What we all should do is boycott any companies that advertise with the GAIN. In fact, as loyal /.'ers, we should spam all companies that are advertising or are associated with gator with messages of gatorhate.

The only way to beat evil like gator is to play their dirty game.

    DDOS GATOR.COM NOW!

Now, Mr Eagle, come here and lick my asshole!

  2. From my experience... on Top 10 Software Titles Every Home PC Needs? · · Score: 1

Here is my top 10 winblows programs that should be encluded:

    - WinMX
    - AVG or Norton Internet Security
    - Winamp 2
    - Winace
    - OpenOffice.org
    - Mozilla Firebird or Opera
    - Spybot S&D
    - Nero 6
    - WinDVD
    - Download Accelerator

WinMX - the only one I know that doesn't rape and pilliage your computer
AVG or NIS - Free or pay for it. These are by far the 2 best - don't touch PC-Cillin or CrapAfee they will only root your computer badly.
Winamp 2 - Stable and simple does the trick.
Winace - .zip .rar .ace .lhz .tar.gz .whatever
OO.o - Free and just as good as MSOffice once you get to know how to use it properly.
FB or Opera - Just cannot have IE!!!!
Spybot - Like derr!! 'sif you should run a pc without spyware protection.
Nero - Easy to use and writes more *cough*illegal*cough stuff than roxio.
WinDVD - or powerDVD, I really have no preference.
DAP - 56gay or OC3, a good download manager is something you must have. AFAIK, no browser supports resume as clearly and easy to use.

What not to put on: AOL, Kazaa, Limewire, Morpheus, BonziBuddy, Hotbar, Gator, BearShare, any Br0derbund software, the list goeth on!

  3. Frustrated incorporated! on Judge OKs Competitive Pop-Up Ads · · Score: 1

I work for a large computer retailer in .au as a computer service technician and all I get day in, day out is people with spyware on their machine. The most common is obviously Kazaa, imesh, bonzi buddy, whenU, xupiter, etc. This is a disturbing trend. Are people getting dumber, or lazier, or are these companies just getting smarter.

I recommend to customers the good old windows fix for most. Format/install.

Not only will this get rid of the stupid software but it may teach them a valuable lesson.

Another thing to note is that HP/Compaq whack spyware on their machines. For years HP have been using "Backweb" to download crap to customers computers. I've never actually seen it work in the 10 years I've worked with computers!
Worse still, they have started putting "Wild Tangent Game Channel" on their pcs by default.

My proposition is some ubergeek out there should write a virus like the MSblast but 3 things should happen:
    1. Giant-ass DDoS attack on gator.com, bonzi.com, whenu.com, aol.com (okay, maybe not that last one)
    2. User gets "you are a sucker for installing on your system. You will now go to hell - hope you have backups" on the screen followed by
    3. fdisk

Maybe then people will start reading licencing agreements...

  4. Die smellstra die! on The Australian Broadband Disaster · · Score: 1

I don't know about the US but .au has no value broadband isp's at all. Telstra is the mother of all screwups. Dare I say, more hated than AOL?

    http://www.bigpond.com/broadband/access/ADSL/pla ns /
Just check out the pricing plans. Don't forget to convert the $$$ from AU to US www.xe.com

Telstra have more downtime than uptime and have a complete disregard for their customers. Australia spits on them *spitting sound*!

  5. Who really buys software? on BSA Creates Piracy Statistics · · Score: 1

This thread's percentages are up 48.314159E^32% from the last ones!

But seriously, think of the definition of pirates. Pirating is when you threaten violence to steal riches (usually in the form of chests with gold inside). Piracy is done in 4 stages:

    1. Invasion (boarding the poor bastard's ship)
    2. Threatening (sometimes coupled with killing)
    3. Stealing (to grab the loot)
    4. Burying (like banking but without the questions and fees)

Now, as far as I know, there is no invasion in software piracy, no threatening by the theif, there is stealing I guess and I'm sure there is no burying! Maybe piracy should be called unauthorised discounting!

If you buy MS programs I guess you could call it paying what it's worth ;)

Wouldn't it be funny if that BSA report was typed on a pirated copy of word?

My WinXP Pro's product key starts with FCKGW - does yours?

  6. (MS)"Other OS's? What other OS's" on IE6 SP1 Will Be Last Standalone Version · · Score: 2, Interesting

No, really, does MS know there are other operating systems out there or are they completely blind to their competition?

I swear they just assume that people fall over themselves to grab the latest $300(AU) or so upgrade for windows so they can keep up to date. The day is not far off when people will actively be looking for alternatives to replace their restrictive proprietary windows OS at home and in business. Linux may be the answer, but then again, maybe something else will come along.

Tying the internet browser to the OS is just plain dumb on MS part. People want choice. What if we all had to drive Ford cars on the road. There were no models, just a Ford95, Ford98, FordXP. People would look at alternatives like GM or Toyota. Problem is the fuel and roads are all designed for Fords. Toyota may be easier to drive and faster but because everything is Ford only it would be hard to do.

Take this into consideration too. Now that IE6.whatever is the last IE for 98 and ME, what if a security flaw was discovered and all the hackers in the world found out. There would be no updates. "Either you upgrade to WindowsXP or just die" says MS. What about your poor family who are trying to put son/daugher through school and they need a computer. They can't afford a good one so they just buy a second hand PC with windows98. Some hacker finds a vulnerability with the browser and while surfing the net for an assignment, the son/daugher's data is erased. The cruel thing is they have no option but to start again. They can't update their explorer to fix the problem...

And one more thing, now that the OS and Browser are one, what happens to the dumb people who install Hotbar, Kazaa, BonziBuddy, Gator, NewDotNet, Xupiter and other spyware that smashes IE to bits? Now that the browser is even more tightly integrated, we will find that the computer won't boot at all. Even to back up data we need.

    RATM!
