  1. Just a bulkier mutation of Google on Music Industry Develops Centralized File-Sharing System · · Score: 2, Insightful

After reading the article, this appears to be nothing more than some kind of perverted searching application. Basically a user will search for content and see links that the user can then select to download the material after paying for it. They should save the trouble and simply pay Google to incorporate this into their search engine.

  2. Re:Metrocard vs EZPass on Police and Lawyers Love E-ZPass · · Score: 1

It is not really different. I was just trying to explain why you cannot pay an EZPass anonymously. Either condition will produce the same result. The offending driver will receive a traffic ticket. The only difference will be how the traffic is issued. If the driver has an EZPass, the system will use that to send the ticket. If the driver does not, the camera system will take a photo of the license plate, and the ticket will be mailed to the registered owner of the car.

Since you can travel throug an EZPass at somewhat close to highway speeds (35 mph), shutting a gate on a driver with an empty EZPass may not be shut a good idea.

The difference between EZPass and the Metrocard is that if you attempt to enter the turnstyles with an empty Metrocard, the system can stop you. You cannot be stopped from going through an EZPass lane with an empty card. If users had an option to do this anonymously, EZPass lanes would soon disappear as more and more people would just allow the pass to empty and still go through the booth. I am also not sure the privacy debate is valid because your license plate can still be photographed and the car's owner can be identified that way.

  6. Re:Hefty price tag on iBot Self-Balancing Mobility Device FDA Approved · · Score: 1

I actually had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Kamen do a keynote speech. He did the entire speech from an iBot. It was an amazing thing to see. He had no problems climbing the stairs up to the stage and climbing back down when done. Besides the ability to lift the user up to the equivalent of a 6 foot person, the iBot can also fit through normal doorways. As a result, it should be possible to not have to do any modifications to houses for people with wheel chairs. I would think that insurance companies would much rather spend $30,000 on an iBot than $70,000 on house modifications that will basically prevent the house from being sold to anyone else.

  7. Re:No more M$ newsreader then? on Microsoft Stops Development Of Outlook Express · · Score: 2, Interesting

What is even more amazing is that if you install Outlook and you do not have OE installed, Outlook will automatically install it. You have to have the entire OE application installed to only use the news reader.

Oh well, I guess disk space is cheap.
