  1. Inertia? on Walking Around In Spherical VR · · Score: 2

Yes, the inertia of the ball probably causes some lag in changing directions, etc. BUT, it might be worth noting how few people can turn on a dime when running at full speed in real life. The ultimate VR system *should* emulate this effect, not just feel like Q3 Arena on a big screen.

You, my friend, are a truly sheltered and ignorant individual. Next time, try doing a little reading before you inject your utterly senseless opinions into a conversation you know nothing about, and which has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

Thank you for making a number of important points for me. Firewire does not need Intel's support in order to be successful, and eventually it will become successful enough that it will get Intel's support.

Firewire currently runs 400 Mbps or so, in the future that is going to double two or three times...that means the next gen. is going to be 800 Mbps, next 1600 Mbps...let's see USB keep up with that.

Let's also not forget where USB was a year and a half ago, pre iMac. There was Intel pushing it like a bulldozer, and yet there were hardly any peripherals. Along comes the iMac, and peripherals start flying out of the woodwork (even if they are in bad-rip-off-turquiose). Even Andy Grove chastised peripheral manufacturers for not getting on the bandwagon before the iMac came out...Simply stated, without Apple, USB would still be floundering around making no impact...and the same will be true of Firewire.

  5. Re:That part about linux for the mass, ... on Designing Linux for the Masses · · Score: 1

The important distinction that needs to be made is that of purpose. You may jump into your minivan and hit the gas and head off, but if you were to get into a Ferrari and do the same...well, it just wouldn't be right. A Ferrari is a car that should be appreciated for the power and flexibility it gives you. Now, would it be possible to make the Ferrari drive like a minivan? Sure, you toss in an automatic transmission, soften the suspension and steering, etc. But then what good would it be? Perhaps a prerequisite of Linux is jst going to be that you need to take the time to learn how to drive it. If this step is neglected in favor of easy to use (at first glance) tools which dumb down the environment we're all going to be sorry in the end.

I am tempted to completely ignore your comment, as it clearly shows that you don't know what you are talking about. I just want to point out, however, that A Modest Proposal is not/was not/never will be funny, if you allow four or five of your neurons to fire consecutively. A Modest Proposal is an essay written to draw attention to the thousands of impoverished and starving people in (Ireland, I think) at the time it was written. To think that this, or the sarcastic solution proposed is funny, you either missed the English class in which it was discussed, or you need to eat more vitamins, because you are sick.
