    People place products thinking they can get it cheaper, and then when they talk to the store the sales people scream and cuss at them if they don't buy addons they "must" buy (like power cords and batteries).

    For every 1 reputable company based in NYC and NJ there are hundreds which are ran y petty criminals.

    aah ... brings back memories of tsim sha tsui, kowloon. folks spending two whole days of their vacation getting yelled at and insulted so they can save $50 on a camera.

    I guess the nexus404.com were just copying the error. I followed a chain of misinformation down thru techpp.com, newlaunches.com, digitaltrends.com - all of whom dutifully copied the 2GB RAM quote - can't find the source. Apparently, according to those reports, it'll run on 2 watts.

    It's the amount that Service Birmingham has spent - Service Birmingham is a joint venture between Capita (see summary) and Birmingham City Council. See my reply to GP for link.

    Nothing can touch add-ons like NoScript, AdBlock, etc. (and most of my add-ons and their associated functionality can't be found on Chrome, Opera, etc.).

    Well, as far as I know NoScript hasn't found it's way into the gallery of Chrome's extensions yet ...

    The summary (conveniently?) left out the part where it says that this package is only included on OEM installations, not normal installs.

    Which part? TFA only speculates that this is intended for OEM installs. The package is 14 hours old and Ubuntu have said nothing. It'll be a while before we know the salient details.

    It's NOT just a 'PING'. From TFA:

    O... mentioned many times over and over in the original article. its only installed on OEM installations. the ones that are customized by canonical for use by oems. its not enabled/installed on your ubuntu install if you just download ubuntu or upgrade. geez...

    The article *doesn't* mention over and over. It *speculates* - once - that this is for OEMs. It can't be enabled or disabled on any Ubuntu download as the package is only 14 hours old.

    It's been shipped with Ubuntu for the last several releases but there's no nag anymore. You have to go to Software Sources (Package Manager) and go to the Statistics tab and check the box to activate it.
