  1. Mike Rowe? on Microsoft to sue Mike Rowe for Copyrights · · Score: 1

Two things are plain to me: * If Microsoft wanted the Mike Rowe domain, for any reason, they only had to register it. They've had plenty of time to do this while Mr Rowe was otherwise occupied growing up * Bill Gates, and his personification Microsoft, are shitheads

  2. SCO vs RIAA on SCO to Take On Hollywood · · Score: 1

If only we could get SCO to go after the RIAA! That way we could all sit back and watch the bullshit flow - and kill two (ugly) birds with one stone. We could also follow the story in one SlashDot thread rather than two...

  3. Porous CDR discs on CD-R Lifespan - Is It The Label? · · Score: 1

I burnt a CDR a while a go and promptly stuck the label to the wrong side. No problem, I thought - I'll just remove the label and stick a new one on the right side

After soaking the label in alcohol it peeled off. Minutes later the CD delaminated in spectacular fashion! One side was left with a foil layer, the other was a sticky mess

My conclusion? The disc edges are porous where the two halves are laminated together. Inevitably this means they'll absorb moisture / solvents / contaminants. It follows that the less well-made - and more porous - they are, the worse the effects will be

  4. Re:One problem that I can see with Itunes on iTunes Indie Meeting Notes · · Score: 1
Apple isn't going to encounter this problem - the record label is

It's the responsibility of the artist and the label to deal with copyright issues, not the seller of the CD or - in this case - the seller of the download

iTunes will only be deprived of this music if the appropriate copyright clearances aren't obtained. And this isn't rocket science any more - all record companies deal with this on a daily basis

It's ironic really that a reseller - a company at the end of the retail food chain - will end up having such a disproportionate influence on a major industry as Apple surely will

There's a historical precedent - Amazon changed the face of book retailing - but Amazon won't rock the industry to its foundations as Apple will the music industry
