And with the current situation where the users of a device is prevented from doing the changes they like to their devices including downgrading the OS the interest in Android goes down.

It's a sour situation right now when you aren't in control of the device you have bought. I can understand that there may be some constraints to at least prevent malware but the owner of the device shall be able to be in control of the device and not risk it being bricked.

A major reason for having more control over your device is to get rid of bloatware that the manufacturers have a habit of installing. Some bloatware is also a security risk for various reasons.

Since you also have access to the kernel sources it would be easy to fake the interface and kernel version if you were to plan to use an unsupported kernel. Any problems would however be at your dime, not to be blamed on Android or Linus.

I can understand the minimum level requirements on the kernel and possibly also to allow the rest of Android to inspect the kernel configuration in order for the environment to be able to ensure that the platform it runs on is providing sufficient services. But these should still just be recommendations and not a final condition. Many hobbyists are able to create "bastard" solutions that works pretty well.

If there's an angry bull in the field then it would make sense to remove the person from the field even if they don't cause damage to the property - just for their own safety. But the cop could of course just "miss to see" such a person and instead let them take their chances with the bull.

Replace bull with other risk at leisure.

  20. And the press is in place to be the ones watching the law enforcement to prevent them to go too crazy. For the public this is one of the few ways to prevent public servants to become public masters. It don't work all the time though. And some reporters have unfinished business with law enforcement which means that they can go beyond what the law allows them to do.

But regardless of if it's reporters or law enforcement personnel that exceeds the law it's up to the courts to decide a law was broken or not.

Reporters shall also take care to not harm ongoing investigations. It may mean that they should consider delaying release of their findings at least until the harm that it could cause to an investigation or court verdict is limited.

Anyway it's not up to the individual cop to take action against reporters except to protect them from unnecessary risks.
