  1. Basic scripts, inaccurate details on C.S.I. · · Score: 1

My introduction to CSI came in the fire episode that was mentioned and I was quite dissapointed. I thought the script was written for a basic level of understanding and I would be worried if a real CSI unit demonstrated as much ignorance of forensics as the characters on the show did. Half the time it seems as if the evidence slaps them in the face and they say "oh wow, how about that?"

What did in the show's hopes of any future eyeball time of mine was the part at the end where they were catching a killer who had a cold. The guy is standing at a casino cashier behind a glass window, where he sneezes onto the window on his side of it. The detective turns around, wipes the OTHER side of the window where he is standing, then proclaims to the cashier that he just got the evidence he needed to put the cashier behind bars. I guess the director thought sneeze snot can travel through glass or something, or maybe just that the American public was stupid enough to overlook that minor detail.

The basis of the show might have merit, but its dumbing down for the sake of the viewers holds it back from being the really good show that it has potential to be.

I got a kick out of "There is always something enamoring about thinking you can get something for free." ...I guess Allchin must not consider IE a free product then.

Likewise I suppose giving IE away and/or bundling it with Windows isn't hurting innovation. Sure, try telling that to the guys who used to work for Netscape.

Try the combination of these sites instead: To get your GPS coordinates for your address: http://www.geocode.com/scripts/eagle/eagle.pl?cmd= td_i Then plug the coordinates into the applet on this NASA site: http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/realdata/sightings/ind ex.html I've used it for my location and it's perfect! And what a pretty sight the ISS is, too. A little white dot moving across the sky at Mach-25 is just too cool.

  4. Re:Careful what you wish for on redhat.com Site Redesigned · · Score: 1

I am not suggesting that we ignore 14% of the web surfers...what I AM suggesting is that we don't devote our attention primarily to those 14% -- we give our attention to all 100% by designing nice, flexible layouts that take the whole screen at any resolution and still look good....not to mention that they are still readable at any resolution as well.

  5. Poor site design on redhat.com Site Redesigned · · Score: 1

I am so tired of seeing sites that are designed with the 640x480 user in mind!!! What ever happened to the good designers who could write flexible HTML that would fill up the screen no matter what the resolution? Not to mention that the text is so small and unreadable that I need a microscope to see what the heck's going on.

I'd love to see some stats on how many 640x480 vs. 800x600+ users there are out there. I bet the ratio is far in favor of the 800x600 users.

And what's the deal with every freakin' site on the web turning into a portal. At the rate we're going we're gonna have portals that point to portals that point to more portals and it'll take 50 clicks just to find some real content!

Don't count on me to be back to RedHat unless I need to get files or something. That new design sucks!!
