Apple could introduce a discount upgrade package for those who trade in Premier for Final Cut Pro. That would be a way to keep those people on the platform.
Intel and IBM are free to do their own benchmarks with their own compilers. Apple is posting compiler/CPU benchmarks for the platform that the developers will actually be using in a few months, this is useful information.
...I guess I should have been more clear. I mean, mindshare on the Mac platform.
I there is also Tiffany 3, perhaps GIMP, and maybe even Create... But these apps don't seem to have the mindshare that Photoshop has.
"All that's left is an Office killer..."
...AND Photoshop killer and we'll be set! ;)

what are they doing? are they changing to the linux model of kernel modules so we never have to reboot again for every little thing?
Unfortuately, I believe the answer to your question can be distilled down to just three letters: DRM (ala Palladium or whatever they call it now)...
If what you say is true, it only makes me want a G5 more. Linux is compiled with GCC so it must surely scream on the G5!

The machine (Mac and PC) specifications are in the VeriTest document.
Hmmm... I seem to have been posting this a lot today. Disabling Hyper Threading can make the SPEC scores look better.
As for disabling Hyper Threading, this may have been an optimization in the VeriTest SPEC benchmarking.
Oops... the previous message was posted in the wrong thread.
In the case of Hyperthreading, the Xeon may have been optimized for these tests...
BTW, disabling Hyperthreading may have actually improved the SPEC scores for the Xeon.
