  1. Actually, we are facing some serious scarcity... on Is Space Mining Feasible? · · Score: 1

Gold, silver, nickel, and palladium are all becoming extremely expensive and otherwise would be used for a lot more cool industrial stuff (slashdotters would appreciate cheaper gold => cheaper faster processors, for one). With India and China increasing their commodity demand as they grow we're going to hit some serious bottlenecks. Also, space mining would be an excuse to start doing cool stuff in space and making it affordable for the average guy to participate (yay free markets...).

  2. i know the guys making SBC's decision on SBC Refuses To Name File-Sharing Users · · Score: 1

Bain and Co. are consulting with SBC and the guys involved all hate the RIAA...it's part strategy, part because they're good guys that they're doing this.

Personally, I permanently boycott companies like DirectTV and RIAA who pull this crap, and will give business to those who stand up to them.

  3. Another perspective... on Learning to Say No in the Workplace? · · Score: 1

You should hold your employer to what he agrees to, but using "the law" to screw him over based on a working relationship you had previously put up with is criminal, and is bad for society. We live in a society that's free and the attitude of "I deserve more" is what causes people to be middle class...go and create stuff by getting friends and using your mind and making it on your own, not agreeing to terms and then realizing later that you were working too hard and "deserve" more pay. You have to be very careful if you use the completely screwed up court system we have -- most of the time you're only doing evil. We'd be a lot better off if everyone realized they "deserve" nothing, but can use their ingenuity to create value.

  4. Re:rash accusations on On The Trail Of Super-Zonda · · Score: 1

Wow. I didn't realize this community was so biased politically. With all the messed up stuff going on in the world and the middle east, the BBC continues to single out Israel and put out a really messed up, one-sided perspective on it. I understand the anger, but its "human rights abuses" are child-like compared to the cruel dictators abusing most of the Arab world. Anyone ever read a good article representing these views? This issue is kind of like the abortion thing...if you can't understand both sides' perspectives really well you should step back and think and find a smart guy on the other side. Come on, guys.
