Your audio drives your narrative, and can compensate for mediocre or lousy video shots.
I actually started shooting and editing video stories for the newspaper I work for several months ago, and I recently put together a list of tips and suggestions for budding videographers.
Oh, and one other thing I learned (the hard way): don't try to edit your movie in the Vista version of Movie Maker. Heartache will surely follow.
