Hello. I have been planning to do what you are talking about for some time. And I am currently researching the possibility of converting USB2 packets into packets that can be sent over RJ45 cable. And then a driver on the host machine will convert the packets back.
Only problem is, how? I don't know the specifics of the packet types. And I don't think a PIC would be fast enough. Although you can find circuit diagrams on the net for connecting USB devices to a PIC.
