the honor system is the only way to not seem like some big-brother-fascist-cow...if ur going to let ur employees be creative then don't bog them down with additional administrative crap.
HELL...they still own the rights to anything u develop in ur "pet projects" anyway. just check the fine print when they hired u.
> As long as you kept a low profile politically, we were likely to be okay.
In Arab terms, this is progressive and liberal! What if you're a woman? Can you go outdoors? Alone? Drive? Work? Please, apologize on their behalf again. I love it when people try and deny that a society is living in the stone age when they evidently are.
I'm having a hard time understanding why this is insightful, did the poster even read the comment? let's recap....
"As long as you kept a low profile politically, we were likely to be okay."
This is under the OLD secular Sadaam regime where political disloyalty was punished severely, which i think we can all agree was not progressive or liberal. I don't think the poster was exalting the old Sadaam regime, but was simply detailing how it was to live under Sadaam.
But on the other hand...
"The new Iraq will most likely be a lot more religiously conservative...though more free politically."
Which i think we can all agree is progressive in Iraq.
There's alot of technical know-how on slashdot but also alot of political and religious intolerance....you would think we were in a chat with the Young Repubicans Club.
Agreed, I also live in Wash DC and within the DC limits it loves to loop you around and take you on congested streets. I think the all time worst is going from DC to VA, where MapQuest gives me 3 different bullets for one turn off the highway.
My other pet peeves:
- ID3 tags: not only can you not ping a DB but you can't tag from filename.
- Library View: you cannot view your files by filename. My files are organized rather neatly
in folders by genre and artist, but my ID3 tags suck. It would be nice if I
could view them by filename so that I could quickly update my ID3 tags. (And
yes its stolen music, mostly left over from my college years, Napster hayday, sweet ethernet
and file sharing)
- Deleting file from Library: since I WAS (past tense) such an avid stealer
of music I sometimes have redundant files in my library, it would be nice if
I delete a file from my library it gave me the option to also delete it from
my computer (like MMJB)
I admit most of my problems stem from having mostly stolen music, but I don't
have the largest music library in the world (~40GB) and these problems still
nag the hell out of me.
All that said, I'm enjoyin iTunes so far. The ease and integration of Smart Playlists,
search and browse alone make it well worth the switch. PLUS I'm an IPOD owner.
I have a shitty 930 MHz box with 384MB RAM and iTunes runs great! Winamp is really barebones when compared to more up-to-date "jukeboxes." Can't believe anyone thinks that MusicMatch is efficient, that garbage runs much slower than iTunes.
Besides hardware is so cheap you can get a 2.0 GHz desktop or higher for like $500.

the point is to give people some creative freedom not bog them down with additional meetings and more bureacratic bullshit.
