I would assume that law doesn't cover weapons with a tax stamp, but of course I don't live there so I haven't had any reason to research in depth. Just glad Georgia doesn't give a shit what I buy, we just gotta get rid of the Jim Crow-era gun control laws still on the books... frigging embarrassing.
Yes, Washington is generally a Free State still. No NFA restrictions, no nonsense based on caliber. Not that it matters, because 99.99% of AK-pattern rifles in America are semi-automatic. The select-fire are few and far between, and are up there in price where you might be making a budget decision between a new car and one.
Erm... no obvious places to conceal a weapon? I carry a gun every day (not a cop, just a citizen exercising my right), concealed, and you would not know it just by looking at me. And that guy was wearing baggier clothes than I do. Given the examples of public figures being killed, you could make an argument that the officers present figured that any guy who is acting erratically and not following their orders might try to hurt the senator. Unless you genuinely believe your life is in danger, it's just not a good idea to do anything except comply with instructions from an LEO. No, it's not always right, but if the officers were in the wrong, no doubt some lawyer will be chomping at the bit to sue the shit out of their department.
Overpriced? I paid $25 for my QD (hurray for rebates) and have found it to be well worth it... I've got a MP3 and movie player with several emulators and some damn good official games to boot, and a 1 gig MMC to throw it all on. And they didn't make it more expensive with a crappy camera or anything else I don't need. Show me another phone that can do all that for the money.
