I use AbiWord under Windows 2k and the only thing that disturbs me is the strange spacing of some texts (maybe depends on the type of font). Anyway it works fine for me.
...his paternal grand parents were actually Austro/Hungarian and Jewish

There is/was no such a person as Austro/Hungarian. There was a state with such a name though 100 years ago.
There are Hungarians and Austrians and Jews among both of them (however complicated it is to be a Jew and a patriot of the land she/he is living in inthe same time)./OFF
Arab history is so complex and poorly understood by this Westerner I'll have to admit I have no clue how they reached the nadir they did in the early 20th century.
Creating a tool (i.e. a convenient environment) for further developing content (or an OS sofware) is a part of those plus efforts you have to invest when you create open content. You also have to distribute it. OK easiness of distribution is one cause of open source's success, but more and more often you have to compete with other software.
In the end it turns out that you have to pay to release your open source software/free content. Of course it pays off, if you can create revenues somehow (i.e. one of the/.-ers finally finds out that million dollar business model:) - I'm not kidding when I say, I think it will happen soon.)
Though I have no experience in the music industry, I suppose even in today's system many unknown bands start with street performing (or something similar) and only after their first success get a serious contract.

And do not forget about BeOS, a pioneer of a database-like FS. There is also a BeFS for Linux.

OK, it's a toy-story (old or new - egal), but how much do you save, if you use it instead of a "big" helicopter? An idea anyone?
