  1. Site Magically Dissapeared. on Follow Up on Google Favoring Yahoo · · Score: 1

As interesting as this is I added my site [just so you can verify it] neopaintball.com about 2 months ago. And although I didn't look very hard for the site to show up in keyword matches I knew it would show up on a simple search for neopaintball. It did consistantly for about 3 weeks.

Then one day the link:url search stoped working [for any site] and I emailed google about it. They told me that they had fixed it and to try again. I tried again and poof my site no longer existed in their index.

I thought this was VERY wierd but figured I would just submit the site again but nothing. Has not showed back up in their search results for 3 weeks.
This works So does this but mine Does not.
I know it sounds like griping but I realy don't care I just thought it was VERY odd.

  2. There is no data in these tests. on Postgres Beats MySql, Interbase, And Proprietary DBs · · Score: 1

I am very dissapointed that slashdot posted this article. It is a marketing ploy buy a new company trying to make a buck off Posgres.

There is little or no real comparison data in this report. There are paragraphs about "Postgres performs 4-5 times as fast as Mysql and others" What are we comparing here. Air? They don't even tell you what type of machines were used or OS for that matter. We are simply left to believe what we read?

If I was looking for a benchmark from Oracle or any other database (or CPU for that matter) I would expect Graphs and numbers representing the facts. Not paragraph after paragraph of non-technical data that investors and CEO's like to loot at. Come on guys. this is not data that is relevant to any developer.

  3. Re:I think.. on Jupiter Report Says Napster Users Buy MORE Music · · Score: 1
This is not about mp3 as a technology. This is about napster. MP3 as a technology for getting herd and giving artists the ability to directly interact with their fans does work.

This is demonstrated by websites and products that give the downloaders the ability to interact with artists (mp3.com). Not only can you directly view information about an artist while you are downloading and listening to their music but very often the artist is also compensated.

Napster does NOT and does not plan to ever conpensate artists nor give them the ability to reach out and touch them.

This is why napster simply facilitates piracy. Nothing more nothing less.

Oh and if you bought some many albums that sucked why didn't you take them back. Not only does just about every record store have a listening kiosk and will put the cd that you are looking to purchase in there but they do take returns. I have done both many times.

  4. Re:I'll buy more music because of Napster on Jupiter Report Says Napster Users Buy MORE Music · · Score: 1

Well It seems you are the majority. "probably" going to do someting means that it is PROBABLY not going to happen. I wonder how long you have had the album on your computer. I wonder what would posses you to want to spend 16$ on something that you alredy have.

The article spouts off things about music enthusits. What is the most downloaded song on napster. I don't think it is one of the unsigned artists that are soposed to be benifiting from being HERD on napster. This looks like an artist that has PLENTY of publicity through other means. If you thought that you liked this album I am sure that it is on just about EVERY kiosk at every record store to hear. If not you can always return the album if it sucks.

If you wanted to buy the album you would have done so within a week of hearing the song.

  5. Letter to Tucows Editor on Are Linux Reviews Fixed? · · Score: 1

After reading these articles I chose to write a little letter.

It is interesting that you point out that these reviewers are getting
"Free" software from linux companies. Mandrake and Redhat Both fall mostly
under the GPL therefor the software is FREE to begin with. If these
reviewers are actually linux people and know squat about linux they would
know that there is little or no software that they should ever have to pay
for (I personally think this is the downfall of the linux corporate
community how can you honestly make money off something that is free).

I would be interested to know what kind of software they are getting for
free. It would be my impression that these tactics have been used in the
MS world for a LONG time. Getting expensive software (Office, Visio..) for
free would be great. I do not see the extreme benefit from getting (in
comparison) StarOffice, RedHat, Mandrake, SuSE for fee. (If you add up the
cost of all these products they don't compare to the cost of Office 2k).

You may in-fact have a point about bias software reviews but I don't think
that the reasoning behind them is getting free software for free. I think
it is more a lack of people to do critical reviews. If I use redhat and I
think it is great then why would I put out a bad review (I use debian it
is better!). I think there is a lack of people with the technical
expertise to evaluate linux software and then to have the desire to write
    a review on it.
