    Maybe it doesn't matter. The people at Rise (http://www.risetec.com.tw) told me that their new cpu will be a Socket 370 400 MHz Celeron clone. It won't be overclockable but it will be able to run SMP. Should be out 3Q 99.
    BTW, they test their cpus with Linux, Be and QNX.

    I have 2 366 MHz Celerons on my BP6. Mandrake 6.0 and BeOS 4.5 run very nicely, thank you.

    I live in a country with only one phone company. It sucks big time. Expensive, lousy service and of course, I can't switch. Internet service? Give me a break. The same company controls it. The smaller ISPs all have to go through the big one. SLOOOOW. Expensive. Why? NO COMPETITION!

    than anything ever dreamed of in Redmond. What's funny is that since the Chernobyl Virus, I've been installing Warp systems all over...60+ in the past 4 weeks. People feel it's more stable, faster and just plain classier feeling than NT. Also, they don't have to spend an arm and a leg for hardware to run it. At one company, all the machines were Pentium 100s, 32Mb RAM, 1.7Gb HD and 4X Creative cdrom drives. The installs were quick and easy. They're thrilled. HAHAHA! Who says virii are destructive?

    The star athlete at my school (class of '69) managed to avoid the draft and Vietnam. Over the years after graduation he assaulted a number of local people but never went to jail....his family had connections. In 1983, he threatened the owner of a restaurant and got his brains blown out all over the customers. The owner claimed self-defense and got off without even a slap on the wrist. He was an asshole because the school system ENCOURAGED him to be an asshole. He was never punished, he was always rewarded. Well, he got his final reward.

    BTW, am I the only one who saw the NBC interview with the Columbine High School football team? God, the total sum of their IQs is probably smaller than my shoe size.

    The average age of the Vikings who terrorized the Western World was about 16. Battleaxes and swords weigh in at considerably less than 50 lbs. most of the victims in both Rwanda and Cambodia were beaten to death (not shot) by teenagers.

    Actually, I do. Have you ever studied ANY history? Ever heard of a place called Somalia? Gee, I don't think those guys fighting graduated from Sandhurst. How about the KLA? They're going up against the Serb's with (in many cases) just days of training. Think about it....the reason the Sebs have the power is because THEY'VE got the guns! Chairman Mao said it best, nice and simple, "Political power grows from the barrel of a gun". FYI, there are LOTS of trained civilians, ex-military, etc in the US. I know PLENTY of people who can easily take someone out at 400 meters. Think of how things might be different if some pissed off kulak had popped Stalin in 1930 (20,000,000 kulaks were murdered by Stalin in the 1930s). Regardless, people can learn fast under pressure.
    As far as comparing America's problems with those of the UK, Australia and Canada...if it had been economically advantageous for the Brits to use slaves to brew beer, skin beavers, or molest kangaroos, I imagine their crime rates would be slightly different.

    Which is why in the Bill of Rights, Freedom of Speech/Freedom of the Press is backed up with the Right to Bear Arms. Being able to talk is great until somebody decides to run over you with a tank....just ask the people at Tiananmen Square. My wife was there.

    In none of the places you mentioned were arms ever allowed to the general population. The ways the people were able to get weapons was either to smuggle them in or kill a soldier/cop/oppressor and TAKE them.
    FYI, I am in Asia and have lived in China, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. "Rights" are NOT Rights when they're simply tossed to the People like a bone to a dog. But then, you Aussies have been getting used to that for some time,right?

    ?????? Your point? I'm saying that there's less and less difference between "democracies" and the totalitarian states. If the Chinese and Singaporean people had weapons maybe the governments would be a little more careful. Ever think maybe that's why the US is so anxious to disarm the public? If they really wanted to protect the people, drunk drivers would 20 years in the slammer. Get a clue.

    At the end of the of the Aerican Revoluton, the British had 60,000 troops in North America. The Americans had about 8,000. The Royal Navy had the largest fleet on earth....the Americans had several merchantmen they had managed to arm. Please tell me, how many B-52's did the Viet Cong have in 1970?

    As the US is once again discovering, simply having the most advanced weapons (lethal or non-lethal) does not guarantee victory. Whether it be a Stealth bomber or a quad Xeon box running Redhat 6.0, NEITHER can go in and occupy territory. At the end of the day, as it's been throughout recorded history, some poor "grunt", scared, dirty and hungry, armed with an M-16, Springfield, Brown Bess, battleaxe, pilum or gladius is going to end up having to go in over someone elses' bodies and say "This is mine now and you f*ckers are going to STOP."
    No geek whether 50,000 ft. in the sky or 10,000 miles away behind a keyboard is going to be able to do it.
    We always think that if we throw enough money and "brains" at it we can make war clean and bloodless. Win without mussing our hair. Sorry folks, it just don't work that way. Why don't we ever learn?

    In yesterday's China Post (Taiwan) Craig Barrett (Intel CEO and President), who's visiting Taiwan, announced that Intel is going to establish "two state of the art server and workstation design laboratories at National Taiwan University (NTU) and National Chiao Tung University (NCTU)". NTU and NCTU are Taiwan's Harvard and MIT.
    Over here, you will *NOT* get a high tech job without a degree, the higher the better. You go to your average bookstore and all you see are computer design and programming books (and people standing around reading them!).
    BTW, if you think they're doing it because the workers here are lower paid, think again. The pay is considerably higher than in the US.
