    The problem here lies in the XML file Safari generates for listing all your system fonts.

    Look here (for XP): C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR NAME HERE\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\Safari\Fonts.plist

    You can edit this file and hack in the basic Internet fonts you need, or try plugging in the Fonts.plist file from a machine that did display the fonts correctly.

    The apple forums are saying if you have thousands of fonts installed it's probably the cause of the problem.

    Here is my hacky solution file if you need a starting point.

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

  3. Re:e-comics e-books, etc on The Rebirth of Comics · · Score: 1

    As a creator of an online comic, print would have been my ideal choice too. Problem is, if you want to print an independent comic you are almost guaranteed to lose money on it (particularly in Australia). Publishing work on the internet means your distribution is not limited to how much you can afford to print/who will accept your work, and you at least have a slim chance of making a return on it.

    This was summed up well by a non-technical person who was first exposed to the internet around 1997 and coined the term "the internet is stuffed" and made the prediction that "this thing will never last, its a fad".

    I have recently read an interesting book on the subject of where science fits into science fiction - The Science of Superheroes. Specifically, it deals with comic book sci-fi.

    Its a lighthearted read but amusing reading for anybody who has debated at length the plausibility of things that were never meant to be taken that seriously anyway.

    Definately more of a library job than a book you will want to buy, but a good three-night read, anyway. If (like the angry reviewers down the bottom of the amazon page) you are expecting serious scientific debate, I would recommend you don't read it. It will only anger you.

    To paraphrase Slartibartfast:
    "These things will become clear to you," said the old man gently, "at least," he added with slight doubt in his voice, "clearer than they are at the moment."

    Read the Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy books. In fact, expose yourself to any of Douglas Adams works in any medium and you will not regret it.
