We are being destroyed by becoming too much like our late enemy, the Soviet Union.
Our own gov didn't believe (or want to believe) in the power of open, limited gov relative to totalitarian gov. (No comprehension of computational complexity, which forbids central control ever working.)
Now, we have a huge Fed gov police/intelligence apparatus being turned against the American people.
No matter how noble their goals, the NSA, the FBI, the CIA and all other fed police forces are unConstitutional and antiFreedom.
NASA likes everything gold-lated, large, late, over-budget, under-performing.
If we want space stations, abolish NASA and give the taxes back to ordinary people. Repeal the Treaty on Space/Moon, let people homestead the moon and mars the way they did Oklahoma.
Then we will have space travel.
Until then, don't hold your breath. The laws of bureaucracy are just as binding as the law of gravity.
I am a contractor. I have known/worked with contractors who had to be contractors because they could not do work and could not hold a job. Other people with similar skills have full-time jobs because their bosses like them.
OTOH, I have known immensely talented people who have been both contractor and employee, and moved in both directions.
Bottom line: you have to pay good people, either cash or stock/dreams/perqs/social rewards.

Tabloid journalism has overtaken the std media.
BTW: Does anyone besides me think we should stop electing Kennedys because the family has some problems with judgment/acknowledging limits?
