Yes - (www.imagemagick.org) - batch processing instead of doing the same thing over and over to many images. It runs on several platforms. I've used it a lot in situations such as where someone has scanned hundreds of text documents at maximum resolution and people are complaining that they take a long time to load.
Make it so a user never, ever has to open a command prompt
We are still seeing this shit after MS Powershell came out? Look up "grep", "sed" and "awk" and you'll see why some people dealing with CSV files or similar are happy that there is a command prompt instead of having to wait for someone to write a special program for them.
This slang usage again - the operating system includes the solitaire game and the glowing thing on the desk is the "computer" while the beige box underneath is the "hard drive". Consider the context - here the textbook definition applies and not the slang that was ripped to shreds by the Judge in MS vs Netscape.
Perhaps you should read this post instead of all the pointless tilting at windmills. https://slashdot.org/comments.... Ranting at windmills is just as stupid as ranting at motorbikes. Sure, trucks move a whole lot more stuff about but other vehicles make sense at times.
The thread linked was about windmills but it applies from my experience with gas turbines. Gas turbines can be stupidly expensive to run when the fuel costs are high (as it was in the 1990s when I had something to do with them), but if you only need to run a few and generate a lot less MW than the smallest thermal unit offline then it ends up cheaper. Wind competes with gas and to some extent solar - coal, nukes, hydro are not in the same solution space at all for covering peaks. In Europe the gas mostly comes from Russia which makes a lot of people nervous about price and continued supply so windmills are considered more of a viable option there than they are in other places. In the US the current coal seam gas situation makes gas turbines look like a vastly better option than windmills in most situations but since units are expected to last for decades some companies are building windmills in the expectation that the gas price will be much higher in the future - probably a safe bet. In China they want a few of everything to provide a robust generating network and so that if an external provider of a resource tries to do some price gouging they can extend a middle finger.
So there you go - no politics just plain old simple capitalism behind it.
Windmills, flow batteries and that's just this week. You post a LOT of attacks on anything you think may have some sort of connection to something "green". Your handle stands out so it's been very obvious for months.
NOT MY FACTS
Ah yes, the amusing "my facts" thing where it's assumed you can make up shit and call it a fact like your pretended idiocy over fluids swishing about, as if great grandpa hadn't worked it out. That really disgusted me how you pretended to be so stupid just so you could pretend you had a point until others worked to prove the obvious. By the way, I'm attacking your very obvious political bias in the face of reality and not you. It's tedious having to wade through political shit every time someone mentions a different way to do things. It's especially tiresome when they show how they wasted their time at school and university in some sort of mass debating club and try weasel tricks like pretended stupidity to just argue and hope others will give way under the sheer weight of bullshit.
"conspirators are all powerful and nothing can be done about them."
That is the approach you are using by insisting that they are an unknowable force dealing with the unknown. Meanwhile in reality they appear to be toy soldiers best replaced by real military intelligence. Your vote could do something about that some day, they are not the Stasi and this is not East Germany. Please wake up to what is going on instead of railing against people who dare to challenge your comfort zone.
As for my experiment that's not on mobile it happens on the desktop. Try it.
You were taking Daniel Stone's comment about X on a mobile phone of 2008 out of context. It's not a problem on the desktop and I doubt it would be a problem on mobile phones today if they had X.
I'm not cheering them on - I'm a coal guy, I'm merely defending myself by driving off well meaning idiots like yourself that make me look bad by your blind charging at windmills without noticing that they have a niche. Sometimes they are cheaper than gas turbines, other times not, but they are in the mix for practical and economic reasons. Your "attack everything that looks green" bullshit is stupid, immature and obviously based on politics instead of rationality. Grandpa had windmills to pump water - machines don't have politics you tool.
but it does appear you follow me
It's about the topic. I know a lot about it from decades in the electricity and mining industries and you sometimes go on with ignorant bullshit as if it's real and attract my ire. Post less ignorant bullshit on the topic and suddenly the illusion of me following you will vanish.
Yes, probation for raping a kid and serious jail for looking at pictures of imaginary people. Pretty fucked up isn't it? I'm not defending the people looking a pictures of real kids just pointing out that maybe we should be going after the ones actually taking the pictures or raping the kids a bit more than the current lazy policing.
Conspiracy theories can be comforting when you assume the conspirators are all powerful and nothing can be done about them, so you can just ignore them and move on.
Meanwhile back in reality the NSA is leaking like a sieve and we know far more about them than we would ever want to.
I must say your denial of what you wrote in your first post and the insults calling me stupid for taking your first post at face value are very amusing. Do you do balloon animals too Pogo?
A bit difficult on your Mac, so pull the other one. You've got a loooong history of "X sux" posts remember and said you'd never use it and never need to with your Mac remember.
Network transparency in the proper sense doesn't exist on modern interfaces
So use something other than the piece of shit GTK that needs a 3D video card to run not much worse than something that is not "modern.
You can't safely directly render to X11's compositor without a high risk tearing
You are taking a mobile phone example out of context.
it is old school Unix guys that don't think responsiveness is worth losing network transparency
It was never that choice. If you want to see responsiveness try gnome2 applications either locally or remotely and compare them to the current ones locally even with a video card accelerating things for you. Recent toolkits told reponsiveness to fuck off. Blaming network transparency is just a distraction from losers who wouldn't know how to get their stuff running well on any platform. It never had anything to do with responsiveness because local applications get to use local sockets.
Take the high cost up with the energy utilities that think it is a good deal because those tiny little generators save them money but putting off when they have to start building very capital intensive large units. By taking a blind political approach you are making yourself look very silly, especially when in a few years time the political cheerleader you follow will be getting money from wind farms and telling useful idiots like yourself how wonderful it is.
Right and you have no way to tell if they're lying to you
Frequently they are but they still have to beg for money in public.
but these are professionals
The star trek set thing, what Snowden could get hold of and an increasingly long list of other things (outsourcing - WTF?) indicate otherwise. They are toy soldiers IMHO best replaced by the real thing.
credible claim to knowledge of the subject
You are the one calling us ignorant yet saying they never say stuff in public. Quite funny really and a bit of an own goal on your part. I don't have to be an expert to point out a really obvious fuckup do I?
it's something that is driven by green party fanatics
You are looking in the wrong place. Despite being a very radical thing to do the people pushing this distraction call themselves "conservatives" - big city based right wing assholes.
We've seen what the NSA is now. It's horse judges doing a "heck of a job" all the way down. If it's utter crap that fits bullet points but is not fit for the actual task then it's the real thing.
don't be such an ignoramus... because they don't even talk to the public about what they want
They talk to the press and some of us "ignoramus" types read it. A bit of an amusing backfiring insult there Aighearach. The NSA don't get their government cash without saying in very broad terms what their aims are. We get to hear that stuff too if we pay attention instead of ignoring it.
There have been people convicted for viewing cartoons so it is a bit of a point that things have gone a bit far off track from preventing child exploitation. We keep on letting the child rapists like Roman Polanski go free while using pictures as an excuse for paramilitary raids on suspects.
Privatize security? You mean like dismantle the TSA and have airport security run by the airlines?
At this point that would be an incredibly good idea. The airlines have different priorities so would run it as security and not a massive welfare program for a massive number of poorly trained staff and money funnel to political connections. Walmart "greeters" take the security part of their job far more seriously than the TSA up to the highest level.
As for everything else, you've got some good points.
is the privatization of all military
Blackwater etc partially happening and a horror story in general. Mercenaries employed to do what professional soldiers consider unprofessional or outright war crimes.
I believe he has enough respect of the people in uniform
He has shown utter contempt on several occasions.
I believe it won't be long before larger and more complicated weapons, like a passable battle tank, can be mass produced in an amateur machinist garage.
A very interesting idea but it doesn't seem to be playing out that way anywhere.
By the way, what do you second amendment types do at 45? Do you get rid of all your guns since the second amendment doesn't apply to you after that? Perhaps you should consider that your right to be armed comes from it not being taken away from you in the first place and has nothing at all to do with the second amendment.
Yes I get it mister planes can't fly because all that fuel sloshing about will fuck them up. I get that you hate the "reality based community" and just keep on pushing whatever the current party line defined by donors is. You are as fucking annoying and clueless as a cold war commie but just do not seem to get that you have fallen into exactly the same trap as those losers. Machines don't have politics you tool.
Something like that came up in the Manning "cablegate" leak. A Nigerian branch of a US oil company was asked to provide sensitive information to a US intelligence group and they told the spooks to fuck off because they were sure the spooks would have a leak.
I would think that anyone who actually chose to work for the NSA in an offensive capacity would be quite dedicated to their job
The example of the "Star Trek set" guy and a few others indicated that they are a bunch of horse judges doing a "heck of a job" getting sit-down money and playing at being toy soldiers. IMHO it should be run by the military at military wages with military professionalism instead of all this pissing in pockets and outsourcing of huge contracts to good friends or political connections.

There are technical dictionaries online now you know.

The sad thing about that is that it was only because there was nobody like J. Edgar Hoover at the IRS that Capone could do a deal with.
Perhaps you should read this post instead of all the pointless tilting at windmills.
