"does it allow people to do stuff like this without making it really complicated."

The transfer of license rights isn't about complexity. It's about legality. For example, in terms of complexity, it's easy for me to praise god while speaking into a microphone at a football game. But, in terms of legality, it's a gray area. Back to the point at hand, Apple doesn't have to make the transfer of licenses easy. They just have to make it legal/allowable (or do it in a way that is legal/allowable).

Geekoid is right. You only commit the crime if you KNOWINGLY buy the thing from the black market. If you bought it from the black market, but didn't know it, you're innocent. The same applies to music files. Downloading music files is not necessarily a crime. However, downloading music files that you know you should not download is a crime.

I think if the library's music CDs are in traditional CD format, you have committed a crime for ripping. If, however, the music CDs are in MP3 format, you have still committed a crime, but they (the library) is an accomplice to the crime, whereas they (the library) was not an accomplice in the first instance. On the second note, I agree with you. The music industry is, indeed, claiming copyright infringement, when it is in face no different (other than exponentially more users) from the transition from cassettes to CDs.

By your logic, if your television got stolen, or if your television was "so scratched up as to be" unviewable, then you would steal another television because you don't want to pay a "tax" on something you already own. Downloading music files for tracks that you already have on CD is a gray area. You, however, are in the red area. You are download music files for tracks on CDs that WERE STOLEN FROM YOU or are SCRATCHED UP.

There is no need for the driver to "go batty listening to kids watch Shrek." That's what headphones are for.

The in-car TV's are for the passenger and children in the back seat. These people don't need to keep their eyes/attention on the road. It is intended to cater to the family that often makes long trips or takes long vacations.
