"exlude known large email servers"
And what about small, relatively unknows isps? They will suffer for sure.
If this could be done, then all you would have to do against spam AND worms would be to use that great whitelist, and accept mail only from those "exlude known large email servers".
v
You are right, stickers would be a pain.
I just wanted to show, that if a case is taken seriously, (even by management) a workable solution can be implemented, and the catastrophe simply does not happen.
I still see a huge contrast between the way companies handlet the y2k issue and are handling the current worm issues.
There were news about the worm on saturday, still i have not heard of any company, that would have pulled the IT staff in the office for sunday to prepare for the workday.

The difference is, that we could sit down, make a plan, inspect all PCs, have stickers for OK machines, etc.
And there were far less problems than with an average worm nowadays. Imagine if the Y2K problem would have been as big as a usual worm hit. (several middle to large companies affected for a couple of days)
>It works the other way too. Makes it much harder
>for a company to screw you. Say you need to work
>late. They decide they don't want to pay you for
>that time to try to claim you weren't there.
>Hard for them to say if there is a palm scan
>record of you leaving. Much easier to say if
>there is no record, or just a punch card.
and who controls the system? will You have any proof in your posession that you did work late? no. they will have proff that you were late in the morning, and will use that to fire you. if you argue, that you did work lat ein the evening, there will be no proof of that, either by cheating the system, or because of some malfuntion that erased the data.
we more and more get in a situation, that the corporations can use any novel technical advance to control people while people are denied to use the dame technology to protect themselves.
stores use cctv, and say if you do not like it, whop elsewhere. but they say the same if you try to bring your own camera, and tape the shop. what is the right word for this? asimmetricity, or not-equal-rights?
me
they do!
just in the cases when they stop at $5M, and never get caught, you do not see thm in the news.
that's the main reason for stopping at $5M - not to be caught, not to make it to the news.

All this really resembles me to the Y2K problem.

some years ago MIT needed an enterprise authentication system, and developed Kerberos. today would it read some reports, and implement MS passport?
