    OK, fine, I'll bite.

If responding is a waste of our time, what are you doing?

  2. Linux zealots -- terrorists or evangelists? on Are Linux Zealots Terrorists? · · Score: 1

This is how I see it as well. Perhaps the Linux zealots who write viri/worms/trojans/etc. are terrorists in their own right, but the average Linux zealot (or Apple zealot) -- they see their choice as better than the more popular alternative and want to make sure that other people know and make an informed choice. To me, this sounds more like a form of evangelism than terrorism.

Now if Linux users start making "computer bombs" that wipe all windows stuff and install linux on the machine, that'd be terrorism....

I've been doing this one for years. Very effective demonstration in the communal dorm microwave!!!

Incidently, you can orient the grapes with the wet side down or up. It works either way.

  4. hmmm.... on (Yet Another) Mobile Keypad · · Score: 1

Let me guess... you are either a hunt-and-peck typist, or you're used to alternative keyboard configurations like Dvorak or the Twiddler... therefore, qwerty is too much strangness to assimilate.

  5. Re:Emergency! on (Yet Another) Mobile Keypad · · Score: 1

Alright, the typo is funny, but you bring up a serious point: This looks like a nice alternative to the standard cell phone keypad (granted, the qwerty and/or dvorak versions look more appealing to me) but what does it do for actually making phone calls? I know that you have numbers stored in the address book, but everyone has to dial an unstored number every so often, and it looks like dialing a number on this gimmick will be as much a headache (or more so) than text messaging on the current phone layout is.

  6. Intellimice on Have Keyboards Gone Crazy? · · Score: 1

I, too, use an intellimouse (well, it's an "intellitrackball", actually...). I love the thing, it's totally programable... The only thing I hate about it is the word "Microsoft". Kinda made me feel like I was selling out, but my lousy-$2-came-with-the-computer 2 button thing died (finally!!!), so I had to get something, had no space on my desk, and the M$ thing was the most comfortable one in the store.

  7. Check eBay on Have Keyboards Gone Crazy? · · Score: 1

Just check ebay for the IBM model-M keyboards. Or, here's a link to my search. Looks like you can do a "buy it now" option on one of the things for about $15. Cheaper than you can buy a good keyboard new, and given the discussion going on here, it's probably one of the best keyboards to have, if the loud clickiness won't bother people.

    I see your point.

However, I would like to point out that you have it pretty darn good to, since you apparently not only can afford a computer and an internet connection, but you have the time (like me) to spend patrolling Slashdot.

  10. Racial separation in prisons: a few questions on Worst Jobs In Science · · Score: 1
I'm with you on this one, AC and Henry V. While I can't stand behind everything some people say, perhaps racial separation would be a wise idea in prisons, also as a way to help protect those guilty of non-violent crimes.

What happens to people of mixed race, though? Chances are, they'll be targeted (if they're obviously mixed) by members of both/all the races they belong to, and if you have a separation for mixtures (Can I use the word mulatto, or is that racist? I honestly don't know, and I realize it doesn't apply to all mixtures.) will more common ones gang up on less? Once you've made these divisions, will the problem clear up somewhat, or will racial distictions become finer (Irish-Americans gang up on German-Americans, etc.)? The trouble with starting this kind of thing is that once you begin making divisions, it's difficult to stop.
