From what I gather through Yahoo! Finance, 8% is held by so-called all-insider and 5% owners (and this case the full 8% is owned by Frank Batten jr. former member of the Board of Directors)anyone from buying a 95%+ share and remove Red Hat from the stock exchange.
The total stock value is about $2.5 billion so I think owning all Red Hat stock would mean owning Red Hat.
MS could buy more 50% and up to 100% if the shareholders let them.
Novell bought Suse as a Linux addition, although they are much more credible doing that. Might Microsof be thinking of the same strategy?
And about elephants: if they can make Steve Ballmer tapdance, I'd be a Microsoft fan, no, in that case make it a devotee. Oh, shucks, now I have a tapdancing Steve Ballmer before my minds eye and I can't get it out of there:(
Let me add to that they should take their time doing a bit more research (they have the means). Responding to a threat without paying a visit or getting people locked up 'just in case' requires an intelligent, objective and highly developed assesment skills. None of these seem to be applicable to secret services around the world.
There is a cause, I think: they have power and power corrupts.
This I would like to compare with the Bernie S. case. In that case they were acting entirly irresponsible, not to say childish and vindictive.
They are, in effect, children with guns going unchecked. And we know what that results in.
The only reason I use it is because I have a gsm-subscription with 75 minutes per months, so somtimes I use up leftover minutes. Otherwise I couldn't care less.
Long ago I made a mistake by being an early adapter with laserdiscs. Half a year ago I threw away discs and player, together with the dust it gathered.
Ever since I wait until just about everyone uses a new technology before even considering it.
