  1. bought with free software on Reality On The "Purchased" Linux Reviews · · Score: 2

dunno what the article says, cause it is slashdoted... but believing that someone will give a good review because they get free software from a company that gives away its software for free is just dumb. mandrake linux is free. all of the tools that come with it for free. you can download them all. now, it would be nice if they sent them to me... but they have no reason to... i dont review software.

  2. mpeg audio on Prototype Hardware DVD Decodoer for Linux-needs help · · Score: 1

the thing sez that it also decodes mpeg audio... hmm... will it do layer 3? that would be nice to throw in some 3/486 and have a player....

  3. SDMI? phaze II? what the hell??? on RIAA Plans to Allow Portable MP3 Players · · Score: 1

has anyone really put some thought in to what the RIAA wants to do? they have come up with these ideas for technology like sdmi and watermarking(well.. they didnt come up with it, they just decided on the scheme), but they havent produced anything. i have yet to see any sdmi format songs. they have everbody and their brother jumping on sdmi (like justin frankel of winamp, and i think the mpg123 guys), but there is no format!! sdmi dosent exist yet.

the riaa can release as many press releases as they want, but until it actually exists, i really could care less about it.

    probably.

  5. Re:led's built into everex computers on LED displays with Linux? · · Score: 1

i think i have a program somewhere to put your own message in the little box. i have to look around for it. int 11h or something. we wrote little pascal TSR's that wrote things like "THIS IS A VIRUS" to the little display on school computers. it was fun.

  6. shoving 3+ meg files through your parallel port? on Customizable Parallel Port MP3 Decoder · · Score: 1

i'm not quite sure, but when you stream somthing out of your parallel port, dosent it EAT your cpu? all i know is when ever i use my parallel zip drive to transfer a 10+ meg file, i might as well get something to drink, drink it, go for a smoke, then come back to use the computer again. i can just imagine those mp3's made from cd's without any tracks, where the mp3 is 50+mb.

then again, i could be wrong... :)

  7. Real Virus or MS Propaganda? on Melissa suspect arrested · · Score: 1

does the idea of them using the GUID so fast bother anyone else?

    heres my idea:
ms sees that people are upset at the GUID "feature", because it basicaly destroys any hope of privacy for MS products. MS goes out, hires some computer hacker for 50g's and tells him to make a "trackable" virus. he does, it is released, people use the GUID to track him, there for MS can claim that ghe GUID is NOT a bad thing, because, after all it caught this nasty man that made a big bad nasty virus (that really didnt do anything bad if you were running a REAL mail server). MS is praised for embeding the GUID in all virus, score for MS.

i dont know... maybe i am paranoid.... but it sounds feasable to me.
