most of the comments in this discussion are not valid. if u drop coffee on ur camdorder, or physically break the TV, then nobody will probably replace them. however, if something actually goes wrong with the product even though you are a good user, then they do fix it.
I had bought a projector from BBuy and used it like hell. the bulb blew away in around 1.2 year, and even though i had the extended warranty from BBuy, it didnt cover it. its quite valid that dont cover it. Another example is with a laptop with extended warranty, i installed the great XP-SP1 and the computer will never boot. BBuy charged me 50 bucks for fixing it as their warranty covered hardware and not software (was mentioned in the i-hadnt-read-service-agreement). These are the kinds of problems customers are pissed with, but BBuy cannot do anything about them.
If they are pushing you to buy some accessories alongwith ur purchased, its their business model. They dont earn anythign in selling you a dvd player for 20$, but earn from the accessories. they are here for business, not for charity purposes.
In all these complaints (though few are valid), most of them are quite stupid. I also never had any problems with the rebates or anything.
This is a little offtopic, but I have found gmail to be quite unreliable. Most of the messages i send to gmail take between 1 minute to 5 hours before they reach my gmail inbox, as compared to almost no time for other email services. This is y maybe it still in beta.
No using gmail till it works well.
I agree that Yahoo messenger is an awesome application for use on windows. However, most of the people that I have seen usign 3rd party applicatioons are NON-Windows users, in which yahoo basically sucks big time. So There is no reason why someone should not use other msgrs. on non-windows platforms.
I have been actively trying to move away from yahoo to things like jabber, but most of my Yahoo friends use windows, and its afact that jabber sucks for non-/. users. It just isnt that "fancy" for regular users. Afterall, there is more to life then just messaging:).
I am a heavy linux user, and i have been using it since a really long time. And i agree, linux really creates problems for someone who is not used to computers, or who does not have some geek genes.
however, it dosent mean that we dump linux at all. you should have a look at lindows, which is quite good and provides a very easy interface. it typically dosent have any clipboard or other issues.
openoffice has also been gaining a lot of popularity recently against the complex and expensive microsoft office. device drivers are still creating problems, but if you use the standard hardware then you would typically have them inbuilt with your distribution. also, linux dosent work well with some **cheap** hardware, like some of the "free after rebate" webcams. however its again a fault of those manufacturers who make hardware that does not follow standards.
once everything gets standardized and have well written specs, linux would be more than happy to be used by my grandmother. you just need a distribution that focuses on getting the maximum out of current features and stabilizing and standardizing them instead of working on new features, and im sure companies are doing that.
If the company just wants to support the project, like some voluntary work and do not claim anything of their ownership, then you can charge a low hourly rate or some flat price.
Hi I am a Pro-OpenOffice (or pro-staroffice), and have been using it since quite a long time. If i only have to use it for myself, then there is not a single time that i thought "Damn.. I should have got MS-Office". However, there are still a LOT of issues with document conversions, specially if you have stuff like drawings and all in your document. This even forced me to use MS-Office when i have to mail the documents to other people (Its too sad that everyone i know uses MS-Office). Even in my university (www.usc.edu), none of the public machines have OpenOffice/StarOffice, they all have MS-Office. so its increasingly difficult to use OpenOffice as others dont have access to it.
Hope they install OpenOffice at more places or do something about the MS-Office compatibility issues. (installing is a better, cheaper option. I feel that openoffice/staroffice is still used by more "technical" or "IT" people then the general user.

Yahoo typically keeps us on freeways. This makes the route quite long (im in los angeles).
Mapquest is the best, dosent use a freeway where not needed.
