Hey, I recently got an hp 7400 all in one printer/fax/scanner/copier etc. It works great, does legal (even has 2 trays one for legal, one for regular). Has a document feeder that for all intents a purposes can scan an arbitrarily long document. Damn thing was expensive, but sure does get the job done.
FWIW.
If you really believe there should be "worker protection laws," go live in socialist Europe. The US is a capitalist country. If you don't like your job, you have the right to go get another one or, for that matter, to start your own company. If I owned a business and you started whining to me about worker protection, I guarantee you'd be out on your butt in 2 seconds flat.
I remember one from years and years ago that I believe was published in Dr. Dobbs. It as a C source listing that had all kinds of 3.14s etc in it and the code was literally formatted to look like pi, however it calculated e. Does anyone remember it or have it?
As a longtime programmer it seems to me the only way to make a US IT worker valuable to an employer is to become the employer. I started my own company 4 years ago and am sure glad I did. I now farm out work that I don't have time or inclination to do. Since good code is good code regardless of who writes it, price is the only differentiator. You can be the sheep or you can be the sheep herder.
Coming to a theater near you!
You said "I consider this sad news for the OSS community." Good then you write the check.
As someone once said, "There is no security. Get over it."

That may be, but who is making more money?

Too bad the competition is only open to UK residents only. Fooey!
