Computer security on such a large scale is very, very difficult to get right.
The problem is not that security is difficult to get right. Sometimes it is only a security circus. The motivation is not to improve the security.
Another problem is that not everybody that thinks that understands security really do. Is these passports really worth even if they happen to be uncrackable ?
