  4. Looks good to me on TeraGrid v. Distributed Computing · · Score: 4, Interesting

There have been big projects like SETI@home, Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search, RC5-64 and many others.

There are some like the Casino-21 http://www.climate-dynamics.rl.ac.uk/ and Evolution-at-Home http://www.evolutionary-research.org/ too.

It's becoming easier to create the required code for distributed projects, and it most certanly has become easier to actaully get them distributed.

Indded this is true. More and more of the RPG games coming out are more like cinimatic movies, only you have to press (x) to see the next scene. (Xenosaga, Star Ocean?)

There are some though that offer a much wider variety of game play; like the recent FF X-2 where you have the choice to travel anywhere at any time, Drakenguard with 4 sepperate endings, and more replayability then a deck of cards, and Sukoden III had lots of extra features as well if I recall right.

The merger of Square and Enix I think will help push the rpgs coming out into a new frontier like withg the upcoming XII. But it is important to remeber that there still has been a wide spectrum of variety and part of the problem is at times there are to many games coming out. Heck, we only get 1/2 or so of the Japanese titles here in the US.

    Indeed.
I've found that most greifers I meet are actualy much older.
Twelve year olds can get away with being bad durring the day, but adults will use the anonyminity of the games for this release since they cannot.

I've played a few; Asheron's Call(AC), which I still log into now and again. AC 2, which I don't touch for fear of plague DAoC, didn't get into it much. Star Wars Galaxys, which I played for a while then stoped. Yo-ho-ho Puzzle Pirates, play and love. Now the last three I have all stoped. I didn't like the people in AC 2, and frankly they had it right with the orginal. DAoC had problems with my computer at the time (or vise versa) so with a frame rate of about 4/min. I tossed it into my bottom desk drawer never to be seen again. SWG was fun, but people were spread out, I didn't get to know many and without a comunity hold I ended up quitting. Now AC 1 has some great people, I probably added about 30 people to my messenger lists because of that game. Many times I'd find myself logging in just to talk to people. now YPP (Puzzle Pirates) is a game all about community. Unlike the previous 4 games; had less fan-fare, started small, wasn't in a retail box, and started with many problems. Because of the communities in AC and YPP I stuck with those games, the lack for me in the others killed the fun of them. Really, would you play a solo game for over 80 hours total (a long rpg game length)? So the community does matter, it is the lifeblood of MMO games. And like YPP a game can have a small release, but can build a comunity later.

I'm Glad to hear this. As a student at Purdue University, a few days ago it was rummored that some students in the dorms were more or less raided by police, and their computers scanned - if present with KaZaA the computers were confinscated, I belive this happened to somewhere inbetween 5 and 10 students. However living off campus, I haven't been able to validate this entirely, but as soon as I can the rest of you will know.

And people have been questioning the need for things like NASA... Granted, what is really needed is better devolpment in sky charting, and not just charting of the stars and such, but a general improvment in being able to simply track/detect things within our own solarsytem. I think NASA should focus alot more on this, and not just suplying help/funding, but in developing technology; and yes, I'm sure they they do, but they should make it more publicly known. Then I think they would have a better chance come 'budget reform time' in Congress.
