Just a few things. Comparing Ferrari to Ford is like comparing apples and IBMs. One is aimed at a select crowd of enthusiasts, while the other is aimed at mass market. Both have advantages and disadvantages. Ferrari has never tried to appeal to a large market with their cars (well, not as far as selling vehicles that is). Their main goal (IMO) is to provide custom, hand made vehicles to enthusiasts, while promoting name recognition on a large scale, which it turn brings in the money via sponsorship deals.
As for the Ferrari laptop, this is a recent product, using name recognition from the current leaders in the most popular motor racing series on the planet. And like the cars, Ferrari would only put their name on something if it meets a level of quality acceptible to their marketing department. I'm talking official branding, not unofficial knockoffs. Also like the cars, this product is most likely aimed at a small crowd, and not mass market (ie executives with entirely too much money to waste).:)
As for the argument about building a better car. Anyone out there with money and a bit of know-how can build something to fit a specific goal/requirement. Check out the Bugatti EB 16.4 if you want a car that can go FAST. But not something I'd buy even if I could afford it. I prefer the styling of Lotus myself. If you want something that's good for gas, get a hybrid. Hauling, get a truck. Easy to work on, get something extremelly common. If you have to repair computers for a living, you'd know that laptops are generally a pain-in-the-arse to fix/find parts for too, just like "supercars".
Oh, and just a side note, for world recognition. Real Madrid is probably slightly ahead of Man U. Especially since signing Beckham (he brings in the asian market). F1 will probably grow substansially now with the new tracks in Bahrain and Shanghai.
According to TO, they are the center of Canada. So ALL directions are with respect to TO. Of course the rest of us up here realise that since TO is only a few hours north of the most southern point in the country, that's a pretty dumbass attitude. For that matter, most Torontonians also think the Maple Leafs are a good hockey team, and the Blue Jays have a decent shot at the World Series! They're in their own little world.
