  1. Re:Forget changing your phone number on AT&T Wireless Fumbles Number Portability · · Score: 1

I work for an AT&T call center, i dont see where people seem to think that the "800# Goons" dont have the authority to fix a problemin all actuallity my manager is a moron, quite literally, when people get all pissy at me demanding to speak her i always have this thought in the back of my head just let them talk to her, she will make an ass of herself and get them mored pissed, but even with that i try and explain to them that supervisor, or resolution specialists or managers cant do shit for them. I have a little peice of paper pinned to my cubicle wall and it has a tick for every person who has threatened to take my precious call center job from me, and you know what ... I WIN. Honestly your best hope of getting some impossible problem solved to be civil with the rep you talk to and explain the problem, and if they need authority to get it fixed, THEY will get it, demanding does nothing but piss them off.

I'm with Rogers ATT in Canada and we have something similar to prorated contracts. Mine is on a 2yr agreement, and my cancellation fee is $20/month, to a max of $200 and a min of $60. I have heard you guys talking about a $170USD cancellation charge, that is harse. But also we dont have number portability to worry about up here.

  5. Unlocked Phones on Hong Kong's Lessons on Number Portability · · Score: 1

Someone mentioned having to buy new equipment, this would be a good time to and grab a new unlocked phone, you can get them from T-Mobile or just look on E-Bay i got an unlocked Sony T616 and it works on the GPRS 850 network, plus unlocked phones work on all carriers so if you are looking to shop around they would be a good idea, for the most part most carriers only ask for a contract for a giving a discount on a phone. But i live in Canada, i like Rogers AT&T, and i have no reason to change, enjoy the number portability.
