I don't know if anyone's brought this up, but Steve Jobs has only said no one wants to watch movies on a small screen like the current iPods'. Who's to say the video iPods won't have bigger screens and new form factors?
Might be a tacky solution, but if you have friends in the US just get them to send you a gift certificate, then just pay them back. Use that to buy your music. Don't know if it'd work, but worth a shot :)
