1. A higher percentage of Computers speaks (through a browser) HTTP than SMB
2. Perhaps Apache is smaller than Samba? (don't know, never compared the two)
Lawyers were too dumb (or too smart) to design a formal language for Law/Contracts for Centuries so why would you think they are able/willing to do so now?
you dont have to use them, you dont have to install them
That is one of the most annoying things with Gnome and KDE alike. They force me to install them both (even though I use XFCE) if I want to choose my smaller Apps freely because every simple small Mail-Client, Calculator, Browser,... uses one of their libraries.
Firefox might be catching up in market share but it has a long way to go till it reaches Opera in Usability. It might be a lot better than IE (everything is better than IE) but when using the UI I get the feeling I am using some early beta version of a browser where nothing fits in right and important features are missing (important to me as a Opera User who can not live without some of Opera's features I've grown used to like e.g.opening all pages after a crash)
3) The panel on the left is ugly and takes up too much space
In all the years (since some 5.x version) I used Opera I had this Panel open for about 20 minutes if you add the time from all occassions I needed it. The only real reason to open it is sorting of Bookmarks which does not happen that often considering you can place your bookmark anyplace you want inside your bookmarks folder with Opera.
A very nice one I almost instantly missed in Firefox/Mozilla when I last tried was the use of the "Forward" and "Back" mouse gestures on pages with "Previous" and "Next" Links (like most Tex->HTML Unix Manuals Online e.g.). You can use the Forward Mouse Gesture (Mouse to the right while RMB pressed) instead of clicking on the "Next"-Button.
Another Feature Firefox and every other Browser I tried lacks is the detailed view how fast and how large the current Page is and in which stage of the Connection Negotiation Opera is at the moment
(Looking up Hostname, Connecting,...) which saves my time since I do not have to wait for timeouts for common errors.
I think the reason Slashdotters generally support GPL copyright holders is that usually in that case we're cheering for the underdog, whereas with music/film its the other way round. This is not to say that such a double-standard is *right*, but that's the way it is.
Have you thought about the fact that with the GPL the Law supports Sharing and with the RIAA/MPAA the Law is against sharing which might lead to the conclusion that Slashdotters are generally for Sharing?
You can not compare the GPL with File Sharing. The GPL merely uses the flawed existing law in the best possible way to encourage Sharing. The GPL would not suffer if the copyright law were replaced by a Law to encourage Sharing.
With enough bandwidth you can easily download more than 24 hours of Movies/Series via Bittorrent a day so whatever your needs are (hours/day) it should not be difficult to find enough content to entertain you long enough.
How did I stop massive gaming? Simple. I installed linux;) (no joke...)

Once you have to put in an effort to start a game that exceeds clicking an Icon like rebooting into Windows or even trying to get it to run in an Emulator it is a lot simpler not to play.
So basically you say FPS are less addictive than MMORPGs?
Can you tell me then why so many people still play Q3A oder CS even though the game is always the same and gets boring after at most a few months.
I never understood why people play the same Game for years. Most games last a month at most when I played them (some extraordinary titles perhaps 2 months and a then again few days a year later perhaps).
Now I have reached the point where most Games are simply boring because I've seen all concepts dozens of times. I've started to play UO on a Freeshard (no monthly fee) where I stay 10% for the Game and 90% for the people I met there.
You might not have thought about it but you point out another thing that is very wrong with corporate software developement. Why are managers so far above developers in the corporate hierachy they are even able to shift blame from themselves to others?
We (I am CS-Student in Germany) had some Software-Engineering as Undergraduate Courses but they teach the same bullshit all that companies out there are proving daily to produce low-quality Software at best. They teach Design-first Software-Engineering without the slightest bit of iteration so if there is a mistake in the Design Phase of the Project it can not be fixed. I got the impression nobody at our University is really interested in researching different approaches.
I wish I had mod-points to mod you up.

I don't know about you but I tend to do several things in parallel on my PC most of the time which accounts for several open webpages in my browser, an open MP3-Player, open Movie-Player, SSH-Sessions to other machines, IRC-Client, ICQ-Client,...
Now why the hell should I have to close all that and open it again (which takes at least several minutes) for some minor change like installing new Software?
So you think all of the Kernel Module Development shall be frozen because the two (Nvidia and ATI) module maintainers with more money to throw at it than most other Kernel Developer can not keep up with people doing the same for other hardware in their spare time?

So why the hell do they use natural language instead of a formal language like everyone else who wants to be precise?

I think if and when this were deployed in a huge scale Copyright Laws as we know them would be unenforcable and thus void.

You must really get desperate to put every beginner-level book you ever read on your resumee.
Since this is a modern book:

Why is the Down:Up Ratio in your porn example 1:3 and in your mp3 example 1:0.5? Ratio has nothing to do with size.

IMO the IE Options (or whatever it is called) Dialog is a good example to show young programmers how NOT to design a User Interface.
